Cian ended the call without another word.
There was no way he could stay in the city now. He needed to disappear for a while, let things cool down before even thinking about coming back.
Miranda stared at her phone, totally thrown off. Her brother, taken away by the police? That couldn’t be real. Maybe her husband saw wrong. Her brother was the precinct chief, for crying out loud. How could he end up in a squad car? They’d literally just spoken.
She started pacing, her nerves getting the best of her. She wanted to call her brother, but her husband’s warning kept echoing in her head. What was she supposed to do now?
Her phone started ringing again. She checked the screen. Sierra.
She let out a frustrated sigh and rejected the call. But before she could even put the phone down, Sierra was calling again.
Left with no choice, Miranda picked up, forcing herself to sound calm. “Sierra, what is it?”
Sierra had tried calling Miranda earlier, but Miranda hadn’t answered or called back. Still uneasy, Sierra decided to try again.
“It’s about that girl…”
The second Sierra brought up Lydia, Miranda lost her patience. “Sierra, she’s already at the police station. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure she learns her lesson. We’ll get justice for you.”
Sierra sounded surprised. “You really reported her to the police?”
“Of course. She’s just some kid. It was nothing to get her picked up,” Miranda said, not bothering to hide her contempt.
Sierra hesitated. “But, she’s… she’s actually the new president at Greenward Power. Are you sure she’ll just sit there and admit everything?”
Sierra’s biggest worry was that Miranda would drag the girl in, only for things to totally backfire. The last thing she wanted was to get caught up in the mess. Any young girl who could land the top job at Greenward Power had to have some serious connections. Better to just let it go and take the loss in silence. Plus, Louise wasn’t even that badly hurt. This was enough.
Miranda froze, stunned. “What did you just say? She’s the new president of Greenward Power?”
