Lydia just turned slightly, a sly grin tugging at her lips. “Do whatever you want.”
She paused for a moment, then tossed in, “Oh, and by the way, the head of Exclair’s already been taken away by the police. The ones you paid to smear me, they're all in custody too. You should be glad you’re stuck in this hospital bed. Otherwise, you’d be joining them.”
Sandy understood the law. Even if Lydia had exposed her, there wasn’t much Lydia could do right now.
“Lydia, aren’t you even a little curious how I figured out you’re Chief Lydia?”
Lydia didn’t seem bothered at all. “Curiosity gets people in trouble. If you hadn’t figured out Chief Lydia was me, you wouldn’t have gotten so jealous and bought those trolls to tear me down. And look at you now. You gave me tens of thousands of new followers, wasted your money, and got yourself caught up in a crime. You could be dragged away by the police any minute. Was it worth it?”
Sandy clenched her fists so tight her nails dug painfully into her palms. She saw black spots in front of her eyes, her anger boiling over.
Lydia wasn’t wrong. Sandy had just wanted to look up if it was possible to live normally after losing a kidney, how to take care of herself. That’s when she accidentally found Lydia’s videos online.
Lydia was insanely popular. The comments were full of people praising her skills as a doctor.
Sandy recognized the little makeshift lab in the videos. It was that room upstairs at Mrs. Smith’s house. She’d never been inside, but she’d seen it through the window before. Lydia’s voice was a little different on camera, but Sandy could still tell it was her.
How had she felt then?
Shocked. Completely stunned. She never imagined Lydia was not only the legendary Miracle Hands’ apprentice but also some kind of internet celebrity with millions of fans.
She just couldn’t accept it. They were both eighteen, so how could their lives be so different?
If they hadn’t been switched at birth, if she’d grown up in the Smith family, everything Lydia had would have belonged to her. Lydia was nothing but a thief, stealing eighteen years of the life meant for Sandy.
That’s why she hated Lydia. She wanted to ruin her, to see her lose everything.
