Sometimes he caught himself thinking that even if he lost his sight one day, he’d never forget the way she smiled or the little things she did. Those memories would stay with him forever.
Lydia was speechless for a moment.
“Be serious. Was it that steel nail from three years ago that hurt your eye?”
Back then, everything had happened so fast. She’d managed to take the nail out, but after that, another doctor had to finish the job. When she tried to check on him later, he’d already slipped out of the country without a word.
Connor nodded. “Yeah.”
“So now, is your vision blurry?”
“Not really. During the day, it’s fine. But at night, I can’t see anything at all. It’s not just regular night blindness.”
Lydia stared at him, shocked. “It’s that bad?”
No wonder she’d never seen him drive at night. And that time they went to the Greenward Power factory after dark, he’d held onto her the whole time. Was it because he couldn’t see a thing?
But he’d never said anything about it.
Connor nodded again.
Suddenly, Lydia looked at him differently, her eyes growing serious.
Three years ago, Connor was this decorated young general. He was talented, brilliant, always coming out on top. He had a whole group of brothers-in-arms who would’ve followed him anywhere, and heavy responsibilities on his shoulders. But after he got hurt, he had to give it all up and start over as a businessman.
Lydia stood up, walked over, and gently ran her fingers through his hair. Her voice was steady. “Don’t worry. No matter how bad it is, I’ll find a way to get you better. If you ever want to go back to the battlefield, it’s not impossible.”
