Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 36

The Jeffersons weren’t just any rich family. They were the kind of people everyone talked about, the ones every heiress dreamed of marrying into, but no one ever managed to. Yet here was Grandpa Samuel, acting like it was no big deal, telling Lydia she could just pick whichever grandson she wanted. Did he really want her as his granddaughter-in-law that much?

Mr. Norwood frowned, clearly uncomfortable with the whole thing. “Samuel, what are you up to now? Have you even asked your grandsons if they’re okay with this?”

All three Jefferson brothers were basically legends in their own right. Chris had just graduated from college, but with the Jefferson name behind him, his future was practically guaranteed. Connor was a military prodigy. He’d served his country, made Major General before he was even out of his twenties, but an injury on a dangerous mission had cost him his eyesight. He’d retired early and taken over his mother’s family business, and in just three years, turned it into the top corporation in the city.

Then there was Mikey. He was a straight-up genius, got his PhD from a top university at twelve years old. Now, at only twenty-six, he was already a big deal in politics.

So why would guys like that agree to let an eighteen-year-old girl choose between them, like she was picking from a menu?

Grandpa Samuel just snorted, giving Mikey and Chris a sidelong look. “Of course they don’t mind. Now, hurry up and give Lydia the gifts you brought for her.”

Mikey looked helpless, but he did as he was told, holding out his present to Lydia. His voice was soft and smooth. “For you, Lydia.”

Lydia hesitated. Taking the gift felt like saying yes to the whole engagement.

Lucinda was burning with jealousy. She’d never felt so embarrassed or hurt in her whole life, and it was all because of Lydia.

Grandpa Samuel had said what he needed to say, given out the gifts, and even arranged for Lydia to visit Connor. He was clearly in a great mood. Still, he could see that Lydia wasn’t thrilled, so he didn’t stick around. He left with his grandsons before lunch.

Once the Jeffersons were gone, Kylie tried to comfort Lydia. “Lydia, I know you don’t want to get married right now, but the Jefferson boys really are good guys. Why not take some time to get to know them? Maybe you’ll find someone you actually like.”
