Lucinda’s smile was tight, almost forced, but the more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea. Just give Lydia a chance to see how the world really works. Let her watch as Lucinda stole the show at the International Piano Competition. She wanted Lydia to feel like she would never measure up.
Lydia headed upstairs and packed her suitcase in record time. She was just about to go back down when her phone buzzed. Connor’s name flashed on the screen.
“All set? I can drive you to the airport.”
Lydia shook her head, even though he couldn’t see her. “I’m good. Mom and Dad are taking me. We’re leaving in a minute.”
Connor let out a small sigh that said he wished it was different. “By the way, Aiden found something over in Lakeview Town.”
Lydia’s eyebrows went up. “What did he find?”
“The guy who died was named Edward. He definitely had connections to Black Eagle. And if we follow that lead, it looks like the Norwood family’s nanny and Lucinda are exactly who you think they are.”
Connor’s tone turned icy. No one got away with hurting someone he cared about.
“I tried to get a read on Grace tonight, too. Everything lines up so far. It’s just a theory for now, but after you get back from France, I’ll figure out the link between Grace and Lucinda for sure.”
“So what’s next?”
Lydia’s gaze sharpened. “Grace has been hiding out with the Norwoods for years. There has to be something big going on behind the scenes. We can’t move too soon. We need to use them to draw out whoever’s really calling the shots.”
Lucinda was Grace’s real daughter. Grace was working for Black Eagle. And Black Eagle was connected to some serious criminals in Southeast Asia.
This was getting more interesting by the second.
“Alright. Go to France. I’ll come as soon as I finish up here.”
