“Is Lydia up?” he asked without thinking.

Jenny nodded, a little stunned. “Yeah.”

She was so relieved Blake had run into her instead of someone else. If he’d shown up just ten minutes earlier, he would’ve seen another man coming out of that room. She didn’t even want to imagine how wild that scene would’ve been.

Lydia heard Blake’s voice and stepped out.

“Hi Blake,” she greeted.

He was standing outside the door with a bouquet of sunflowers in his arms. Behind him, his bodyguards were carrying a pile of gifts. Lydia’s heart melted a little. How did he know she liked sunflowers? Last night, she told him not to go overboard, that she didn’t need anything.

“Lydia, this is just a little something from me as your brother. I hope you’ll like it,” Blake said, handing her the bouquet. Nestled right in the middle of the flowers was a black card.

Lydia took the flowers and carefully pulled out the card. “Thanks, Blake. I’ll take the flowers and the gifts, but I really can’t accept this.”

Blake shook his head. “This is from my heart. Don’t think it’s not enough. It’s just one point eight billion.”

His little sister had been away for eighteen years, and she probably went through things he couldn’t even imagine. Maybe she’d survived more than a few close calls. That was the only way she could have become who she was now. Blake admired her, but more than anything, he felt terrible for her. She was only eighteen.
