Jenson and Milana wandered over, drawn by the commotion, just in time to hear what Clark was saying. As they listened to the whispers and gossip buzzing around them, everything quickly started to make sense.
“Mr. Lane, she’s got nothing to do with us now. She’s a Norwood. She left us for some poor family, and her whole life turned upside down. Of course she’s changed,” someone said, their voice laced with disapproval.
Milana watched Lydia run into trouble with the Lanes and didn’t even care if Lydia was still connected to the Davises. She just wanted to see Lydia suffer, conveniently forgetting who had saved her own son’s life with a kidney transplant. As long as Lydia was struggling, Milana felt satisfied. She just couldn’t stand the idea of Lydia being happy.
Vivia, hearing all this, got even more worked up. She glared at Lydia, her voice sharp. “Lydia, get down on your knees and apologize to my son right now.”
Lydia just looked at her, bored. “What do you think you can do to me if I don’t?”
Vivia scoffed. “You really think the Lane family won’t do anything? I could make sure you never find a place here in the capital again.”
A new voice rang out from the crowd. “Wow, who’s talking so big over here?”
Juna had arrived, her presence cutting through the tension in the room. Clark and Vivia recognized her instantly. They’d been to enough Davis family charity galas to know who she was.
The moment they saw her, both Clark and Vivia forced smiles onto their faces. Vivia jumped in, eager to get on Juna’s good side. “Miss Davis, you have to help us. This girl is completely out of line. She started a fight and ruined the whole atmosphere of your event.”
