Luke should have just died early. What a waste of a perfectly good kidney.
Lydia had barely stepped into Smith Corporation when she got a call from the Smith family’s housekeeper. “Lydia, it’s about Luke. He… he gave the house to Sandy. He only took a small bag with him when he left. Sandy also told him to leave the car behind.”
Lydia’s eyes turned cold. “Alright. Got it.”
“Sandy also told the rest of us to leave. She said we were spies you and Luke left here to keep an eye on her.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll make sure the finance department sends you double your salary this month.”
“Lydia, thank you so much. Really, thank you.”
After she hung up, Lydia stared at her phone, lost in thought.
Ever since Luke woke up, he was like a new person. That brush with death made him grow up overnight. Giving the house to Sandy was his way of saying thank you, and Lydia respected his choices completely.
Later that evening, Lydia got a hotel address from Kylie. It was the Grand Regent.
Connor had offered to pick her up, but when he learned she’d be having dinner with the Norwood family and Mabel, he sounded so put out. “Once school starts, it’s going to get even harder to see you, you know.”
He really didn’t want Lydia staying in the dorms, but she told him it was more convenient, especially since she’d be spending so much time in the lab once classes started.
“You talk like we’re on opposite sides of the world.”
They were both in the Capital. It was only a ten-minute drive.
“It’s not so great when your fiancée is always busy.”
Lydia laughed. “Alright, stop acting like a jealous husband. I’ll come over tomorrow and do your acupuncture.”
