Lydia fixed Daisy with a cold, defiant stare, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Did I ever say I’d apologize to you? Seriously, you make up way too many stories in your head.”
Daisy’s smug grin vanished in an instant. “Lydia, what’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying you’d rather be kicked out of school?”
Ms. Brown glared at Lydia, her anger barely contained. “You better think this through. If you get expelled, there’s no going back. No other school will take you.”
Lydia shot her a look of pure disgust. “Do you think you’re the principal? You don’t get to decide who stays and who goes. Who gave you that kind of power?”
Ms. Brown was stunned that Lydia was still talking back, like she genuinely didn’t care at all.
“You broke the rules and bullied another student. You should get expelled.” Ms. Brown’s voice rang out louder, making sure everyone nearby heard exactly what was going on.
Bullying was a big deal. People at school, and even outside, hated bullies. Just the word made everyone angry. Expulsion didn’t seem too harsh when they thought someone was a bully.
Ms. Brown was determined to ruin Lydia’s reputation, hoping everyone would be on her side and support kicking Lydia out.
Lydia just scoffed. “What do you think is in this for you? Do you really think the Rivers family is going to set you up for life at this school?”
Ms. Brown’s face turned red. She wanted nothing more than to shut Lydia up. The truth was, the Rivers family didn’t even know her, but she definitely didn’t want to get on their bad side. In the medical world, crossing the Rivers family was asking for trouble.
“Please. Worry about yourself. My future has nothing to do with you. You bullied your roommate and refused to apologize. The school has every right to expel you.” Ms. Brown sounded like she thought the whole thing was already settled.
Around them, the other students started whispering, their voices low but urgent.
“What actually happened? Why is this being called bullying?”
“I heard someone threw water all over Daisy, even soaked her bed.”
“That sounds pretty bad, but is it really worth expulsion?”
“Keep your voice down. Who’d cross the Rivers family? If Daisy hears you, she might get you kicked out too.”
