Cameron brightened right away and let out a laugh. "Really? Lydia went to see Elliot?"
Kylie nodded. "Yeah, she said his concert is coming up soon and wanted to check on him."
Lucinda, standing nearby, balled her hands into fists.
Lydia went to see Elliot? Seriously? She definitely went to ask for concert tickets. Lucinda had wanted to ask Elliot for tickets last night, but he hadn’t come home. Now Lydia had just gone over without saying a thing.
All her friends knew Elliot was her brother and had been pestering her for tickets since they sold out. She’d already promised she could get them, even told her roommates she’d get each of them a free ticket. If Lydia managed to get all the tickets first, what was Lucinda supposed to do? She’d look like a total fool.
She couldn’t let that happen.
"Dad, Mom, I want to go see Elliot too. Don’t you want to go?" Lucinda said, snuggling up to Kylie’s arm and giving it a little shake.
Kylie smiled at her. "You know how busy your brother gets at work. Half the time when we visit his company, we don’t even see him."
"But Lydia was there, right?" Lucinda pouted. "I thought maybe we could all go and have lunch together. There’s a super popular buffet right next to his office."
Cameron looked at her with a gentle smile. "Lucinda, you’ve been to your brother’s office so many times already. Lydia just came back and hasn’t even visited yet. Let’s not interrupt them. If too many people show up, it’ll just overwhelm him."
Lucinda almost lost her smile. So that was it. They just didn’t want her to go. Wow. They weren’t even trying to hide that they were favoring Lydia now. Lydia could go see Elliot, but she couldn’t? How was that fair?
"His concert’s coming up soon," Kylie added. "We can all go together then."
