Lydia’s face was cold and unreadable. “Take him back. Make sure he talks.”

Wesley gave a quick nod and called out to his team. “Get him out of here.”

Vincent kept struggling, shouting, “I’m not telling you anything! You’ll get nothing from me! I destroyed it all!”

Lydia’s voice turned even colder. “If you won’t talk, you’re useless to us. Send him to join Spencer. They can keep each other company on the way to hell.”

Vincent went stiff. He stopped yelling instantly.

Lydia arched an eyebrow. “What, no more attitude?”

Vincent clamped his mouth shut. He wasn’t about to risk his life over pride. Truth was, he wasn’t ready to die. After seeing what Lydia could do, he was sure that if he pushed her too far, she’d finish him off right then and there.

He had completely underestimated her. Who would have thought someone as young as Lydia would be so skilled and dangerous? He’d really messed up.

The police led Vincent away. Lydia, Connor, and Garrett made their way back to their rooms at the hospital.

Lydia had wanted to go straight to the police station to hand over the clues Spencer left behind, but Connor insisted she go change her clothes first.

To be honest, Lydia dripping wet was way too distracting.

“Don’t do that again. It was too risky,” Connor said once Lydia had showered and changed.

Garrett nodded in agreement. “Seriously, Lydia, chasing after a fugitive alone isn’t safe at all.”

Garrett was still in shock. He already thought his sister was pretty impressive—she knew medicine, could play the piano, and had a great singing voice. But tonight he realized she was also a total badass. She moved like someone with serious training.

Lydia just shrugged it off. “I’m fine, aren’t I?”

Connor looked like he wanted to say more, but Lydia beat him to it. “And you. You really thought it was a good idea to run out into the dark like that and chase after them?”

For once, Garrett actually spoke up for Connor. “He was just worried about you.”
