Chris snorted. “Me? Why would I ever get down on my knees for some shameless jerk like him?”
Mr. Jefferson was intrigued. “Alright, alright. Go on.”
“So let me guess,” Mikey said. “You wouldn’t give in, so you all ended up fighting, and they lost?”
Chris shook his head, his face lighting up with excitement. “No, that’s not it. That’s when my idol showed up.”
Grandpa Samuel had just taken a sip of water and nearly spit it out, spraying it right onto the back of Connor’s head.
Connor just sat there, stunned, wondering what he’d done to deserve that.
Grandpa Samuel didn’t even notice. He stared at Chris in disbelief. “Your idol?”
Chris nodded, eyes wide. “Yeah. She’s totally amazing. Like, next-level incredible.”
Lydia probably had no idea she’d just been promoted to idol status in Chris' mind.
Now even Mikey turned to him, surprised. “What made her so incredible?”
If his reckless little brother was calling someone his idol, she must be something else.
Chris still felt fired up just thinking about last night, watching Lydia school Neil and his friends. “She made a bet with Neil. Whoever lost had to kneel and call the winner Grandpa, and then ride their motorcycle back home… naked.”
That got Connor’s attention. He paused, towel still in his hand, and turned to look at Chris.
Grandpa Samuel nodded, impressed. “That’s some nerve.”
Mikey’s eyebrows shot up, totally shocked.
Lydia? The girl who’d just come back to the Norwood family? He’d met her before. She looked soft and cute, kind of small and delicate. She really took down three grown men by herself?
“Lydia? You mean Lydia Norwood?” Grandpa Samuel repeated, still trying to wrap his head around it.
Chris nodded, looking proud of himself. This was exactly the reaction he’d wanted. He’d been just as stunned last night.
“Yep, Grandpa. It was her.”
Mr. Jefferson burst out laughing. “That’s my granddaughter-in-law for you. So much fire! That’s what I like to see!”
Then Mr. Jefferson seemed to think of something and turned to Chris, eyes bright. “So, you and Lydia have been getting along pretty well these past couple days, huh?”
