The man looked like he was in his thirties, his hair styled into a wild rooster crest, but right now he just wanted to disappear. He had his face pressed to the ground, doing his best impression of a corpse.

Lydia raised an eyebrow, then walked right over to him. The guy stayed glued to the floor, pretending not to exist. Lydia didn’t have time for that. She gave him a swift kick, right where it would hurt his pride, and said, “Keep playing dead and I’ll flip you over and kick you again.”

Lydia nodded. “Call her.”

He dialed, and after just two rings, someone picked up. Before he could say anything, a woman’s voice came through, impatient and excited. “Well? Did you get her?”
