Breaking the rules was their favorite game. In public, they could joke and play nice with Connor, but deep down, people like him drove them crazy. Connor, always acting like a knight in shining armor, was everything they hated.
Sandy both feared Greg and was drawn to his power. At first, when she came back to the Smith family, she thought she’d found paradise. But after she got close to Greg, she realized what real luxury was. Life with him meant gold, glitter, and a never-ending party. Especially in Las Vegas, where money talked and Greg owned some of the most lavish casinos in town. Sandy made a silent promise to herself. No matter what, she was going to hold on to him. She’d use Greg to get everything she wanted.
“So, Greg, what are you going to do about them?” she asked. Connor was no pushover, and everyone knew it.
Greg reached out, gently pinching her cheek. “Your useless brother is already out of the country. They’re just now figuring out he’s missing. They can chase him around overseas.”
Still, Sandy couldn’t shake her worry. It lingered, heavy in her chest.
Greg pulled her close, whispering soft reassurances. “Relax, baby. I’ll make sure you get your kidney back, safe and sound. As for them, if they want your worthless brother so badly, we’ll just hand him over.”
To Greg, a human life meant nothing. Taking someone out was as easy as swatting a fly. And all he cared about was getting Sandy’s kidney back.
No one could imagine just how much Sandy hated Luke now. So what if he was her brother? All he ever brought her was pain. When she was desperate, when she called him again and again, he ignored her. He didn’t care whether she lived or died. Why should she care about him now? She was just taking back what was hers. She owed nothing to anyone. If anything, Luke owed her.
About half an hour later, just like he promised, Greg called Connor.
“Connor, it took a lot of effort, but I found out the person you’re looking for might already be overseas. Of course, this has nothing to do with me. I just asked around.”
Connor’s eyes narrowed, his voice cold. “Where is he now?”
