Ghost pushed himself up from the rubble, his face smeared with blood, his once spotless white suit filthy and torn. He glanced over his shoulder at the wreckage and let out a furious roar to the sky. “Whoever did this, I’m gonna kill you! No one mess with me on my own turf!”
In the chaos, Lydia moved quickly, guiding a group of people toward the exit. The group was too large, and some of them were limping or bleeding. What was just a brisk walk for Lydia turned into an exhausting struggle for them.
They were almost at the main gate when a squad of armed men suddenly blocked their way, weapons aimed and ready. “Hands on your heads! Down on your knees! Try anything and you’re dead!”
Ghost, still streaked with blood, arrived with his men. He didn’t even hesitate. After barking his warning, he fired a shot into the ground. The captives dropped instantly, clutching their heads, huddling together in terror. Shoulders shook, lips trembled, and the fear in the air was suffocating.
Here, people like Ghost treated lives like dirt. To them, these prisoners weren’t worth as much as a pet dog. And if you tried to escape and failed, you’d be lucky if you only got beaten. Most didn’t survive it.
Lydia stepped in front of her people, standing tall, shielding them with her body. She met Ghost’s cold, calculating stare without flinching. He wiped a streak of drying blood from his cheek and looked her up and down, a slow, mocking smirk twisting his lips. “Well, well. You look cute. Who brought you here?”
To Ghost, a young girl like Lydia had to be sent by someone else. No way she’d come here on her own. But even with backup, she had guts to mess with him.
Lydia curled her lips into a smirk. “I came here myself.”
Ghost laughed, loud and harsh. “You’re not scared of me?”
In this part of Southeast Asia, Ghost’s name was enough to make grown men shake. Even the toughest guys twice Lydia’s age would bow their heads in front of him.
“Why should I be?” Lydia arched an eyebrow, calm and steady.
Ghost’s eyes gleamed with interest, his voice turning sly. “So, tell me. Who do you work for? Whatever he’s paying you, I’ll give you triple. Come work for me. What do you say?”

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
