Connor checked his watch again. Lydia had been inside for half an hour already and still, nothing. He was starting to worry, wanting more than anything to go in and check on her. Garrett paced the hallway, restless and anxious. Luke was only sixteen. Losing him like this was just... heartbreaking.
But Lydia was hurt too. She was still so weak and the cold in there couldn’t be good for her.
Right when the tension felt unbearable, the door opened. Both Connor and Garrett looked up at once.
Lydia stepped out, face calm, but Connor could see it right away. Her skin and lips were almost colorless, and her eyes were red and swollen. She’d been crying, no question about it.
Connor’s heart twisted. He hurried over, reaching out to steady her. “Lydia.”
She lifted her gaze to him, her voice icy. “What happened to them?”
Connor hesitated. He didn’t want her to push herself right now. “Let’s get you back to the room. I’ll tell you everything there.”
She nodded. “Okay.”
It turned out Falcon wasn’t the real mastermind. He was just a puppet. Connor had found that out while investigating on the cruise. The one actually behind everything was Greg.
Greg had reached out to Falcon first, asking for help, and the two of them struck a deal. The reason Greg targeted Luke? Luke’s kidney was a match for a girl Greg was obsessed with.
“Greg’s girl?” Lydia frowned.
Connor nodded. “He’s still in Las Vegas. I’ve already sent people to find out who she is, what makes her so important to him.”
Lydia’s eyes narrowed. “Don’t tip them off yet. We need to keep them steady. Once we’re done here, we’ll go to Las Vegas.”
“So far, nothing about last night has gotten out. Greg still thinks Luke is with Falcon.”
Lydia was quiet for a moment. “Falcon’s backers are tied to the Terra Syndicate, right?”

Every chapter is missing a sentence from the end of every chapter. It’s frustrating to try guess what’s missing or said...
