After resolving the issue with Xie Quan, Mo Siyu returned home in high spirits.
His vacation time was running short, and he couldn’t stay in Sea City for much longer, so Mo Siyu had to take care of all the potential troubles for Mo Xiaoyu. In digging out the truth about Xie Quan’s past deeds, Mo Siyu had gone without sleep for two consecutive days and nights.
Upon his return home, Mo Siyu fell asleep before even having a meal.
When Tang Yue came in to call him for dinner, Mo Siyu was asleep on the bed, his eyes tightly shut and his brows revealing utter exhaustion.
Tang Yue tiptoed out and said, "Sister Xiaoyu, let’s eat first and let him rest a bit."
"Xiao Yue, I feel so bad for not being able to host you well during your visit to Sea City," Mo Xiaoyu said apologetically.
"Sister Xiaoyu, not at all, I think it’s been great. Next time, I’ll bring some tasty treats for Tiantian," Tang Yue said with a beaming smile.
On hearing the promise of tasty treats, Xie Tiantian’s eyes immediately lit up.
"By the way, Xiao Yue, Si Yu has been running around these last few days. Wasn’t he on vacation?" Mo Xiaoyu wondered.
Other than the first two days at home, for the rest of the days, Mo Siyu was either not home during the day, or not home at night, and sometimes he was even absent during meals.
"Maybe he has some things to handle," Tang Yue cleared her throat and said, "It’s okay, his job is like that, I understand. Let’s eat."
"Xiao Yue, Si Yu is really fortunate to have married you," Mo Xiaoyu remarked sentimentally. She could very clearly sense the bubble of happiness between Mo Siyu and Tang Yue, especially the way Mo Siyu treated Tang Yue so differently.
The old Mo Siyu was quite aloof, only getting involved in family matters. He wouldn’t bother with anything else, and other women were essentially off-limits to him.
Now, Mo Siyu took care of Tang Yue in every possible way. Sometimes when he came home from outside, he would bring treats for Tiantian as an excuse, but also for Tang Yue to enjoy, even peeling shrimp for her—an image Mo Xiaoyu wouldn’t have dared to imagine in the past.
"Marrying him is my fortune," Tang Yue sincerely said. In the past, she had thought marrying him to be a lifelong unattainable dream, but now that dream had come true, and deep down in her heart, she felt very happy and contented.
"Xiao Yue, it’s my fortune to have married you," Mo Siyu said early in the morning. It was the first thing he said when he saw Tang Yue.
Tang Yue was taken aback for a moment before she realized that he must have heard her conversation with Mo Xiaoyu yesterday. Her face blushed, and she cleared her throat, replying, "Both are fortunate."
Apologetically, Mo Siyu took her hand and said, "Xiao Yue, this time, I’m afraid we won’t have the chance to watch the sunrise over the sea."
"It’ll be the same next time," Tang Yue said nonchalantly. If Mo Siyu hadn’t bothered about Sister Xiaoyu’s affairs at all, that would have disappointed her.
Instead, Mo Siyu’s actions made Tang Yue very happy. He not only took good care of his own mother, but he also protected his uncle’s family in the same way. In the future, after marrying him, he would surely protect her as well.
Mo Siyu raised his eyebrows and suggested, "Today’s the last day, shall we go out and have fun?"
"Where to?" Tang Yue was also childishly excited.
Lian He retracted his gaze, thinking to himself that after so many years, even if she took great care of herself, she could not possibly look exactly as she did before. The girl he just saw looked to be around seventeen or eighteen, at the bloom of youth.
Lian He said, "Yazhi, since Qingyang got into Jinghua, he better study well. If he causes any more trouble, don’t blame me for not disciplining him as a father."
"Qingyang is your own son," retorted Xiang Yazhi, clearly discontent. But she knew all too well that Lian Qingyang had been up to no good these past few years, and her voice inevitably softened as she changed the topic, "Qingyang might be disappointing, but Qingqing is certainly making us proud, right? Look, she’s about to go study abroad."
"Hmph," Lian He snorted coldly, his expression growing stern.
What Lian He liked the least was this blind adoration and fawning over foreign things. There were so many universities in the country, yet Lian Qingqing insisted on going abroad, which displeased Lian He greatly.
Xiang Yazhi cleared her throat, not daring to speak further.
Lian He went straight home and headed to his study, locking the door behind him. He opened the safe and, from its deepest part, he retrieved a dried flower.
The dried flower was a bunch of daisies, light yellow in color, looking as if they had just bloomed, still beautiful. Lian He gazed at the daisies, which seemed to open a chest of memories.
Back then, he was an educated youth sent to the countryside, assigned to a village in Shuanghe Town. Zhang Hualian was the most beautiful girl in the village - even in simple clothes, her beauty was unmistakable.
Lian He had grown up in Sea City, having seen many beautiful people, but none had moved him as Zhang Hualian did.
Zhang Hualian was like a blooming flower, alluring people closer. Many had their sights on Zhang Hualian, and Lian He was one of them. A chance relationship brought him closer to Zhang Hualian, and the Zhang family treated him, an educated youth, very kindly. Thus, Lian He and Zhang Hualian grew closer and closer.
