She froze mid–step, stumbling back, her pulse spiking. She hadn’t expected anyone in the living room, let alone Lucian, lounging casually on the sofa like he owned the damn place.
Her voice came out sharp, laced with shock. “How the hell did you get in here?”
Didn’t Talia say this place was on lockdown? How then did Lucian get inside?
Lucian’s gaze was cool, unreadable, though the tension in his jaw betrayed the storm beneath.
“Is that the only thing you have to say to me?” His voice was cold, but inside, he was fighting the urge to pull her into his arms, to hold her until the space between them dissolved.
Right now, though, he was too angry to let himself soften.
“You need to leave.” Alina said flatly, moving toward the door and pulling it open.
She didn’t realize he had moved until she felt his presence behind her, too close. The door slammed shut before she could fully open it, his body pressing her lightly against it.
“You think I came all the way here just to leave because you asked me to?” His voice was low, dangerously calm.
“Nobody asked you to show up here.” She shot back, her tone sharp with defiance.
“I don’t appreciate your tone.” He warned, his eyes narrowing.
“I don’t care, let go of me.” She countered, glancing meaningfully at the space,or lack of it, between them.
“You’re in no position to make requests,” he said, his words clipped. “I’m very mad at you right now.”
Alina’s heart hammered, but she knew if she pushed him further, she’d lose this battle before it began.
Taking a measured breath, she shifted her tone. “Fine. Just let me go and we can talk.”
Lucian held her gaze for a long moment before stepping back, giving her space. She turned immediately and started walking toward her room, only to feel his hand close firmly around hers.
“And where do you think you’re going?” He asked, his voice low.
“To get dressed,” she replied without looking at him. “Or do you expect me to have this conversation in a
towel?”
His lips curved in the faintest smirk. “It’s not as though I haven’t seen you naked before.”

Her glare was sharp enough to cut, but she didn’t dignify the comment with an answer. She pulled her hand free and walked away, shutting the bedroom door behind her.
For a moment, she stayed there, back pressed against the wood, willing her heartbeat to slow. She might have looked unshaken out there, but the sight of Lucian had ripped open every wound she’d been nursing for days. It was a miracle she hadn’t crumbled in front of him.
Her fingers itched to call Talia, but she knew her friend was busy, there was no one to shield her from this. She drew in a deep breath, deciding to face it head–on.
Throwing on a pair of shorts and a matching tank top, she grabbed her phone from the bedside table and stepped back into the living room, ready, if not willing, for the conversation she had been dreading.
Alina’s arms crossed tightly over her chest, her chin lifting. “You want to talk? Fine, let’s talk.” She said, her tone edged with ice.
Lucian’s eyes narrowed slightly as he regarded her, a muscle ticking in his jaw. “Don’t you think I’m the one who should be upset here?” he asked, his voice low but sharp. “You’re the one who didn’t just send me a breakup message, you disappeared. You ignored me completely.” His voice rose as frustration bled through. “Do you have any idea how worried I was? I didn’t know if you were hurt, or if something had happened to you—”
“You don’t need you to worry about me,” Alina cut in flatly, her gaze unwavering. “I’m not your cup of tea anymore.”
Lucian’s brow furrowed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Exactly what I said in the text,” she replied, her voice clipped. “We’re done.”
“Like hell we are,” he bit out, suddenly striding toward her. His hand closed firmly around her arm, his grip both urgent and possessive. “What made you think you could just break up with me?” His eyes burned into hers. “If this is about Jessica stopping you from coming up to see me that day, you don’t need to worry about her. I’m already dealing with it-”
Alina let out a sharp, humorless scoff. “I could give two flying shit about your whore.”
He ignored the jab entirely, his gaze hard. “This is about Louis then isn’t i—”
Her eyes flashed as she yanked her arm free. “This has nothing to do with Louis, so don’t you dare bring him
into this.”
“Then why, Alina?” Lucian pressed, stepping closer again, frustration crackling off him. “If this isn’t about Louis, then why send me a break up text ending things? You didn’t even have the decency of saying it to my face and don’t think I don’t know about how you two have been getting cozy-”
“I BROKE UP WITH YOU,” she shouted, cutting him off, her voice trembling with fury, “BECAUSE YOU
FUCKING CHEATED!”
