“Mistake?” Alina frowned, not liking the sound of that. “There is no room for mistakes Mia, everything has to be perfect for tomorrow.”
“I’ll make sure they correct it and deliver the right one before the event. It’s supposed to be huge, standing at the very entrance.”
“Good,” Alina said firmly, her arms crossing lightly over her chest. “Make sure it’s ready. No excuses.”
Before Mia could respond, Alina’s phone rang, vibrating insistently in her hand. She glanced at the screen, Lucian. Lifting one finger, she signaled for Mia to go ahead and get busy, and then she answered.
“Hey baby?”
Lucian’s deep voice came through, laced with concern. “You sound stressed.” He noted.
Alina smiled at his observation. “Nothing gets past you, does it? I am stressed but it’s all for a good cause.” She told him.
“Don’t overdo it Doll, that’s why you have an assistant.” He reminded her.
“Yes sir.” She said in a reading tone.
“Alina.” Lucian’s voice darkened with warning.
“Sorry.” She quickly apologized with a laugh. She knew what calling him ‘sir‘ in that tone does to him, yet she likes to push his buttons.
“How’s the arrangement going at your end?” Lucian’s Curious voice asked after a few seconds of deep breaths.
Alina allowed a small sigh to slip past her lips, her eyes scanning the workers still bustling around. “It’s going fine so far. What about your end? Have you informed Jessica that she would be your date for tomorrow’s event?”
There was a pause on the other line, followed by Lucian mumbling under his breath, almost reluctant. “I have.”
A faint smirk tugged at Alina’s lips. “Good. Don’t forget to get her a dress too, so everything looks well… believable.”
“Do I really have to?” Lucian muttered, frustration seeping into his tone.
It was bad enough that he had to come with Jessica even though he hated it, now he has to get her a dress too?
“Yes, you have to.” Alina replied without hesitation, her tone cool, as though it was the most natural demand
in the world.

“Fine, I’ll have Ace go pick something up for her I guess.” Lucian grumbled softly, his voice low like he was speaking more to himself than to her. Then, with a heavier note, he added, “You owe me big time for this.”
Alina chuckled, the sound soft but carrying that teasing lilt she knew got under his skin. “I know. Add it to the long list of things I already owe you.”
Lucian exhaled, a mixture of resignation and amusement slipping into his tone. “Don’t tempt me.” Then, after a brief pause, he asked, “Have you heard from Talia yet? Has she found anything about Louis?”
Alina’s shoulders dropped slightly as a wave of frustration shadowed her face. “No, not yet. She hasn’t-”
Her words cut off mid–sentence as she spotted Talia striding toward her, urgency etched into every line of her face. The woman’s eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that immediately told Alina she had something, something important.
“Actually…” Alina’s voice trailed, her eyes narrowing as she fixed her gaze on Talia. “Lucian, Talia just arrived. And with that look on her face, I’d say she’s found something. Something big.”
“I’ll call you later to fill you in.” She added quickly, ending the call before Lucian could press her for details. Lowering the phone, she straightened her posture, bracing herself for what Talia was about to say.
Talia stopped right in front of her, breathing slightly heavier from her determined stride.
“Well, hello to you, lady. Nice to see you’re still alive after two whole days of radio silence.” Alina said, her voice laced with biting sarcasm, though her eyes betrayed the restless worry she’d carried in Talia’s absence.
“Sorry I haven’t reached out,” Talia replied with a weary sigh, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. “Digging into Louis has been one of the hardest tasks I’ve handled, especially with such a short time frame. The man is like a ghost, he covers his tracks too well.”
Alina’s eyes sharpened, leaning in with a mix of impatience and unease. “So… did you find anything?” She asked, her tone eager yet cautious, as if bracing for impact.
“You’re going to be shocked,” Talia said quietly, her expression darkening. She glanced around the room, lowering her voice. “Is there somewhere we can talk in private? Somewhere with a working computer, preferably.”
“Come with me.” Alina didn’t hesitate, turning on her heel and leading the way.
They entered the control room, the soft hum of machinery filling the air. Several workers looked up from their screens the moment the two women walked in, curiosity flickering in their eyes,
“Give us a minute.” Alina ordered firmly. Without question, they stood, filing out silently until the door shut behind them with a final click.
Now alone, Alina crossed her arms, her pulse quickening with anticipation. She tilted her head, studying Talia’s unreadable expression, her curiosity sharpening to a point.
“Well?” She pressed, her voice steady but her eyes searching. “What is it?”
