The moment Alina stepped out, she froze. The rooftop was bathed in a soft, romantic glow, the lights. dimmed just enough for the hundreds of candles to stand out, their flames flickering like stars scattered across the floor.
A trail of candles led toward the far end, and at the sight waiting there, Alina’s eyes widened in shock, her breath catching in her throat.
Alina’s steps faltered as her eyes landed on the figure at the end of the candlelit trail. Lucian. He was down on one knee, a small velvet box in his hand, the flickering glow of the candles reflecting in his sharp features.
“What is going on?” Alina breathed, laughter escaping her lips in disbelief as she slowly walked toward him. “Lucian… what are you doing?”
His gaze never wavered from hers. “Proposing to you.”
Alina blinked, caught between amusement and shock. “But we’re already engaged, silly.” She reminded him, tilting her head.
Lucian’s lips curved faintly, though his voice carried a hint of gravity. “We both know how that went. You didn’t show up and…” He paused, exhaling as if casting away the memory. “You know what? Let’s not talk about that. It’s in the past. Now, I want to do things again….properly this time.”
Her eyes darted around and widened when she spotted flashes from cameras. Paparazzi. “You invited them?” She asked, her voice low, half in disbelief.
“Yes,” Lucian said firmly. “Because this time, I want the whole world to know we’re actually getting married.”
Something inside her softened at his words, and a smile curved her lips despite her nerves. “Then go ahead,” she said, almost teasing. “Ask me.”
Lucian’s voice dropped, steady and sincere. “Alina Dawn… you are the only woman I have ever wanted by my side. We’ve faced storms, broken trust, and somehow, found our way back. I don’t just want to marry you…I want to build a family with you, a future filled with everything we once dreamed of and more. So… will you marry me?”
Alina’s throat tightened, her chest swelling with warmth. Her answer came with a glowing smile. “Yes.”
The crowd of onlookers erupted with cheers.
Lucian’s lips lifted in triumph as he took her hand, sliding off the old engagement ring, the one he had once placed on her finger in a moment of desperation, when he stopped her from leaving with Adrian. In its place, he slipped on the new one: a breathtaking oval–cut diamond, encircled with a halo of smaller stones that shimmered like captured starlight, set on a slender platinum band. The ring caught the candlelight, dazzling almost as much as the emotion in her eyes.
The paparazzi surged forward, flashes bursting around them, voices clamoring with questions.

Chapter 228
“When’s the ceremony?” Someone shouted and the whole crowd went silent waiting for his response.
Lucian straightened, his arm wrapping securely around Alina’s waist, and looked directly into the cameras. “The wedding will be happening at the end of the month.”
Alina’s head snapped toward him, her eyes wide with shock. The end of the month? That was barely three weeks away.
She was nervous and excited at the same time.
“Congratulations!” filled the rooftop, cheers rising above the shutter clicks.
Talia came rushing forward, squealing as she grabbed Alina’s hand. “Oh my God! Look at that ring!” She gushed, her eyes sparkling.
Alina laughed, a mixture of surprise and fond exasperation crossing her face. “So this was what you were planning? All of those preparations were all for this?”
Talia grinned unapologetically, squeezing her friend’s hand. “Guilty.”
By the time they finally escaped the flashing cameras and congratulatory chaos, Alina’s head was still spinning. The rooftop had been all noise and light, but now, back in the quiet comfort of their home, the silence felt almost surreal.
She kicked off her heels the moment they stepped inside, leaning against the wall with a breathless laugh. “Lucian… what was that?” Her voice carried both astonishment and the faintest edge of disbelief.
Lucian set his jacket aside and moved closer, his eyes never leaving her face. “That was me doing things right this time.” He said simply, his tone low but steady.
Alina’s hand lifted almost unconsciously, her fingers grazing the new ring on her finger. The diamond caught the soft glow of the living room light, dazzling her eyes. “It’s beautiful,” she whispered, her expression softening, though her brows knit slightly. “But you just announced to the whole world that we’re getting married in less than a month.” She looked up at him, her lips parting in a breathless, incredulous laugh. “Lucian… that’s insane.”
He stepped in close, his hand finding hers, thumb brushing over her knuckles. “Maybe it is. But I’ve wasted enough time already, Alina. I don’t want to wait anymore. Not when I could lose you in a blink of an eye.” His voice carried a quiet urgency, his gaze fierce and unyielding.
Her chest tightened, the sincerity in his words pulling at her heart. Still, she tried to hide her nerves beneath a teasing smirk. “So… you’re not giving me any chance to back out this time, hmm?”
Lucian’s lips curved, but his answer was spoken with gravity. “Not now. Not ever.” He leaned down, pressing his forehead gently against hers, his voice dropping to a murmur. “You said yes tonight, Doll. And I intend to make sure it’s a yes you’ll never regret.”
For a moment, neither spoke. She closed her eyes, letting the warmth of his nearness settle her racing thoughts. Then, with a quiet laugh, she whispered, “You really are impossible.”
“Only when it comes to you,” he countered softly.

Chapter 228
Alina pulled back just enough to study him, her eyes searching his. There was no force in him tonight, no desperation…just a man who had chosen to bare himself openly, determined to make her his again. Her lips. curved into a small, genuine smile.
“Then I suppose,” she said lightly, though her voice betrayed the emotion pressing at her chest, “I should start getting used to the idea of being Mrs. Blackwood… in three weeks.”
Lucian’s answering smile was faint but steady, his hand tightening gently around hers. “That’s exactly the idea.”
And in the quiet glow of their home, far from the prying eyes and flashing cameras, he kissed her, slow, deliberate, sealing a promise neither of them could ignore anymore.
What neither of them knew was that the joy wrapping around them tonight was as delicate as glass, beautiful but breakable. In the shadows of Elaris, old secrets stirred, secrets tied to Alina’s stolen past and the enemies Lucian thought he had buried long ago.
Something was coming for them, silent and merciless, and when it finally struck, it would not only threaten the love they had fought so hard to reclaim but rip apart the very foundation of the lives they had built. Neither of them could see it yet, but their happiness was already standing on borrowed time.
