AUTHOR’S POV.

Xander stood beside the heavy oak desk, his posture rigid, eyes flicking between Darius and the door as Luna and Eva entered the study. Darius closed the door behind them, locking away the hallway’s quiet tension.
“What is going on?” Eva asked she noticed how tensed the air in the study was
Eva’s breath caught as she scanned the faces of both men…her husband’s expression was taut and wary while Darius’s was a calm but unmoving mask.
“Xan, what’s going on?” She demanded, voice trembling as she directed her question to her husband. “I do not like the look on your face at all. What is going on? Who were those people that attacked us earlier? Why are you not saying anything?”
Luna’s gaze shifted between Eva and Darius, then she studied Darius’s face, looking for some flicker of truth, some telltale sign, but found nothing. He stood motionless, his expression unreadable.
Xander stepped forward quickly, closing the distance. He wrapped his arms around Eva and drew her into a hug. “I’m sorry for scaring you earlier,” he whispered, voice thick with something more than guilt. Even though it wasn’t his fault, he still felt the need to apologize.
Eva’s body softened in his arms. She pressed her cheek against his chest, inhaling his reassuring scent. After a moment, she pulled back slightly, her voice shaky. “Are we in trouble?”
He nodded, his face serious now. “Yes. But first, you and Luna should sit.”
They moved to the plush chairs by the desk, though their skeptical and worried eyes remained locked on the two men in front of them.
Darius cleared his throat, the sound pulling the room’s attention. He spoke in a steady voice, though it was heavy with weight. “Yes, we are indeed in trouble. To put it more plainly, our empires are in danger. At this rate, we might not make it out alive.”
Luna’s fingers clenched in her lap. She froze, then her voice came out trembling, “What do you mean by that? What danger are you talking about?”
Darius’s expression hardened. “I can’t go into full detail right now. But to protect both the Stormvale and Evergreen dynasties, we must proceed with the blood merger.”
Eva murmured the words under her breath. “The blood merger…” Her tone was fearful, layered with disbelief. She remembered Xander had mentioned it once before, in passing.
Luna’s eyes widened sharply. The recognition was immediate. She spoke, voice wavering: “But… they are so young.”
Xander caught her gaze and tightened his jaw. Darius answered for him. “We have no choice, Luna. This is the only way to protect our legacy from the hands of our enemies and secure a future for our kids.”

A heavy silence followed. The weight of their decision pressed down on every soul in the room.
Nander broke it. “That is why we called you both here… you need to start preparing the children’s minds. We need this done as soon as possible.”
Luna swallowed hard. She exchanged a look with Eva before speaking with fragile certainty. “Dahlia already talks about marrying Lucius, so convincing her should not be too difficult.”
Eva nodded, though her lips trembled. “Lucius often comes off as cold and indifferent, especially when it comes to Dahlia,” she said, her voice soft but firm, “yet I know he cares deeply for her. I believe he would not oppose this plan.”
Darius and Xander exchanged a glance, then nodded in agreement.
Xander stood straighter and spoke with urgency. “We must hasten this. There is no time left. The enemy draws ever closer.”
Darius’s eyes glinted…resolution and tension mingling. “Then we move forward.”
Late into the night, silence had settled over the Stormvale manor, the kind of stillness that makes every distant creak feel loud. In one of the upstairs rooms, Luna gently shook Dahlia’s shoulder.
“Dahlia, wake up, darling,” she murmured, trying to keep her voice calm. “I have something important to tell you.”
Dahlia rubbed her eyes and blinked sleepily. “Mama?” she asked, her voice small and soft.
“Yes, my love,” Luna said, bending closer. “I have something to tell you.”
“Okay.” Dahlia said, using her small fist to rub her sleepy eyes.
“You like Lucius don’t you?” Luna asked her, already knowing the answer.
Dahlia’s eyes brightened. “Yes!” she exclaimed, voice growing excited. “Can I… can I marry Lucius mummy?”
Luna’s heart twisted with both relief and sorrow. Relief, because she didn’t have to convince the child who was already so eager, so willing to follow what her parents demanded. Sorrow, because she knew how young both of them were. But the merger demanded it. She stroked Dahlia’s cheek gently.
“Sweetheart, you are not marrying him yet, definitely not tonight. But one day, yes. But tonight, we’ll do something like an engagement, signed with blood.”
Dahlia’s face lit up with delight. “I like that idea!” she squealed, even if she had no idea what that meant. “Do it now! I want to wear a pretty dress!”
Luna laughed softly, a sound that echoed in the silence of the room. “Okay, my little one. Let’s get you ready.” She lifted Dahlia into her arms, humming quietly as she carried her into the walk–in closet, her mind churning with the weight of what they were doing.
Meanwhile, in another room, Eva stood before Lucius. The boy sat up rigid on his bed, his back straight, his

“Good boy.” Eva’s throat tightened. She nodded, more to herself than to him, then stepped back, “I’ll let you get ready.” She turned to leave him in his space to process.
Twenty minutes later, in the dimly lit drawing room, the adults gathered. Xander, Darius, Luna, Eva, and the children, Lucius and Dahlia stood side by side, small and brave. Damien was absent, still asleep.
The air was heavy with expectation.
Xander’s voice cut through the silence. “This is it. We stand now on the threshold of our future.”
He paused, eyes sweeping the room, lingering over Lucius’s resolute face, then to Dahlia’s eager, trusting expression.
Every soul in the room seemed to hold its breath, waiting for the moment when words would bind them all irreversibly together.
“Let’s begin.”
