Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, twenty years have passed.
It’s the Dragon Boat Festival today, and every household is making zongzi, celebrating the holiday. Sun Chan got up early in the morning, busy in the kitchen, soaking zongzi leaves, honey dates, red dates, and candied beans, all wrapped into the zongzi. She sat there, and these delicate little zongzi came out of her hands. She was in a fantastic mood, humming songs as she worked, feeling very cheerful.
She returned to X City ten years ago. Before that, she spent time in various southern cities with Gu Junming, following his work assignments. Fortunately, she didn’t have to clock in at a job; she just had to complete her drawings and fax them to Han Dong. Ten years ago, Gu Junming’s job stabilized, and he was transferred back to X City as a supervisor. Now they had moved out of the compound and into a small villa.
Gu Junming also mentioned that he would soon retire, and then he would take her traveling everywhere, which of course, made her happy and expectant.
In these years, Sun Chan also followed along everywhere, feeling exhausted. But no matter where they went, Han Dong would have her open a branch store.
Sun Chan would say, "I might not stay long before I move again. Is it necessary?"
"No worries, you just need to keep an eye on it. Your reputation is so prominent now, anything associated with you sells well!" Han Dong chuckled.
Their relationship remained good, despite seeing each other less over the years, but there was a lot of trust between them. Sun Chan made quite a bit of money, primarily used to improve the family’s living conditions. Before Gu Junming’s adoptive parents in the countryside passed away, they were brought to the south to see the sea and lived comfortably for several years.
Han Dong’s business also spread nationwide, and last year, their family emigrated abroad. Han Dong decided that in two or three years, he would hand over the business to his son.
Han Dong had progressed well, with only one regret – his wife gave birth to two sons, so he abandoned the idea of becoming in-laws with Sun Chan.
When Han Dong’s wife was in surgery for their second child, Han Dong had already planned the marriage between his daughter and Sun Chan’s son. But when the baby was brought out, it was still a boy, and Sun Chan laughed until she cried about it, and Han Dong sighed helplessly.
Sun Chan is still quite beautiful now, with no signs of aging on her face, still like a youthful girl. In her younger days, among those friends, she wasn’t the most beautiful. But as time went on, her beauty became evident, while Yang Liu, Yang Zhen, and others all had fine lines and laugh wrinkles to some extent. Spending big money on beauty treatments didn’t help much; beauty seemed inherent.
Zheng Lijuan too, the last time they met, was so exasperated she gave Sun Chan a few taps on the bottom: "You’re really annoying, you never change when I see you! Look at me! I just spotted a white hair last week, it really drives me crazy!"
Sun Chan laughed, "Don’t say that, you see no signs on my surface, but my body has aged! I get tired easily, and my sleep isn’t good either."
Zheng Lijuan pouted, "I don’t believe it! I was lucky Fang Guanghui only left some faint marks on my arm, covered easily with concealer. Otherwise, you’d feel guilty forever."
Sun Chan smiled and said, "In a few days, it’s my dad’s birthday, let’s get together."
"Sure!" Zheng Lijuan clapped, "I can taste your cooking again, last time the hot and sour shrimp soup you made was delicious! Can we have it again?"
Over the years, Sun Chan, having lived in the south, learned many southern dishes, blending them with northern cuisine for a unique taste, so everyone loved dining at her place because the food was just too delicious.
Sun Chan laughed, "Sure! No problem! Bring your daughter along too."
"Tian Tian, she’s very busy and won’t be coming back." Mention of her daughter made Zheng Lijuan’s smile fade somewhat.
Tian Tian is twenty-one this year, a sophomore in college, doing well academically. Everything seemed good, but recently she became obsessed with the internet, reportedly in an online romance with a man over ten years her senior, wanting to marry him. Tian Jian and Zheng Lijuan tried countless times to dissuade her, but it didn’t work.
