Just as she was coming out of the field office, Yunyi saw Ye Wenhui standing not far away.
Yunyi approached. "Sister Wenhui, what are you doing here?"
Ye Wenhui reached out and poked her forehead. "Didn’t I tell you to just call me Sister? Forget ’Sister Wenhui.’ I *am* your biological sister."
Yunyi said, somewhat sheepishly, "Okay, I’ll change it next time."
Ye Wenhui had seen Yunyi heading this way and hurried over. "There’s something I need to tell you," she said.
Yunyi noticed her serious expression and wondered if Ye Wenjuan had found out about her identity. "Go ahead," she said.
Ye Wenhui glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention before whispering, "Wu Bingjie, the one who followed Ye Wenjuan to the countryside, is Qin Lijuan’s son."
Yunyi didn’t react immediately. When Ye Wenhui saw she hadn’t understood, she clarified, "You know, the woman who switched you and Ye Wenjuan in the delivery room back then."
Yunyi hadn’t expected the world to be so small. She hadn’t met Qin Lijuan yet but was now going to meet her son first. "Why are you telling me this?" she asked. "Did something happen?"
Ye Wenhui frowned. "I received a call from home this morning. The situation with Qin Lijuan has become quite serious. Her mother’s family and her husband’s family have been pulling a lot of strings to try and get her a lighter sentence. The main thing is, they somehow found out you’re doing your rural assignment here at Hua’an Farm Reclamation. The family is worried Wu Bingjie might come looking for you, so they wanted me to give you a heads-up."
Afraid Yunyi might misunderstand, she quickly added, "They called looking for both you and me. But when they reached the clinic, they found out you were busy in the operating room, so they didn’t disturb you."
Yunyi waved her hand dismissively. "It’s fine. I really couldn’t get to the phone then, and I forgot all about the call once I was done."
Seeing Yunyi wasn’t concerned, Ye Wenhui continued, "If Wu Bingjie finds out who you are, Wenjuan will probably know soon too. You need to be mentally prepared."
Yunyi knew what Ye Wenhui was worried about. She stepped aside, picked up a small stone from the ground, and said, "Watch this."
Meanwhile, in Beijing, Old Master Qin had indeed been pulling many strings regarding the matter of his adopted daughter, Qin Lijuan.
After learning the full story, he knew he was in the wrong. However, if his adopted daughter was actually sentenced, the Qin Family’s reputation would also be damaged. At the urging of his eldest daughter-in-law, he considered settling the matter privately. However, the Ye Family was resolute in their refusal, and his repeated attempts to visit them were met with a closed door.
One day, Old Master Qin’s eldest daughter-in-law rushed home. "Dad! Dad, are you there?" she called out.
Hearing the commotion, Old Master Qin came out of his study. "What’s all this shouting and fussing? Have you no sense of propriety?"
His eldest daughter-in-law paid no mind to whether he was pleased or not. "Dad, I have some major news! Do you know who the child is that our sister-in-law switched?"
Old Master Qin frowned. "Could it be someone we know?"
