Leaving the machinery factory, Yunyi remembered Ye Wenhui had asked her to bring back a thermos liner, so she headed towards the department store.
Just then, she heard Huo Jingrui shout, "Yiyi, wait a minute."
She hadn’t expected him to actually chase after her. "Why did you come out?" she asked.
Huo Jingrui said with a helpless expression, "I still have something for you, but you sure left quickly."
As he spoke, he handed over a carry bag. "I prepared these for you a few days ago. I was thinking if I didn’t have time, I’d have someone bring them to you. I didn’t expect you to come today."
Yunyi defended herself, "I just didn’t want to delay your work."
He’d be a fool to believe her. For some reason, despite not knowing each other for long, he understood her every gesture and glance. Annoyed, he said, "Fine, you’re free now. I wanted to accompany you, but I can’t anymore. You must be careful. And don’t miss your ride, or you’ll have to take an ox cart back. In this freezing weather, someone as petite as you won’t be able to handle it."
As he spoke, he took a string of keys from his pocket. "These are the keys to the apartment in the family compound. Keep them safe. If you come to the city and I’m not here, you’ll have a place to rest."
No matter how times changed, his thoughtfulness towards her remained constant. What was she to do? She was quite moved.
She put the keys in her pocket and, a moment later, swiftly transferred them to her space for safekeeping.
She approached Huo Jingrui, tiptoed, and whispered in his ear, "Huo Jingrui, thank you. And remember to miss me."
After saying that, she immediately stepped back. "You should get back to work. I’m leaving now."
Huo Jingrui’s heart fluttered at Yunyi’s words. He desperately wanted to pull her back into his arms and shower her with affection, but they were at the factory gate; he couldn’t do that here.
Suppressing the impulse, he thought about how, once he finished his work, he would go find the little vixen and claim his due. After all, she was his intended fiancée. Even if he visited her multiple times, no one could say a thing.
Yunyi placed the items from Huo Jingrui into her back basket and turned to leave. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She hadn’t been angry last time when he’d mentioned the marriage report was approved. He was, after all, the man she had chosen; they were bound to marry eventually. It was just that, firstly, she wasn’t old enough to register the marriage yet. Secondly, she always felt he might remember their past—because eyes don’t lie. She wanted to wait a little longer.
Yunyi wasn’t in the mood for excessive pleasantries, as she still had to catch her ride. "A wild boar and three hundred pounds of wolf meat."
Yunyi had kept all the wolf pelts from her space; they would be good for gifting or personal use.
The black market boss was overjoyed to hear it was all meat. Game was scarce now that the weather had turned cold, so he was thrilled to get a supply. He respected capable individuals and believed in amicable business. "Alright," he said, "I’ll buy the wolf meat at the previous price. To be honest, it’s quite hard to sell."
Yunyi nodded lightly. "That works."
Seeing Yunyi’s straightforwardness, the black market boss continued, pleased, "As for the wild boar, meat is indeed in high demand now that it’s cold. I’ll take the whole pig at eighty cents a pound. How’s that?"
Yunyi was quite satisfied with this price. "Fine. I’ll wait at the usual place. Come get the goods in half an hour. Any issues with that?"
The black market boss was all smiles. "No problem at all."
