The man was also stunned by Yunyi’s swift acupuncture. Appearances truly can be deceiving, and the sea’s depths unfathomable, he thought. He hadn’t expected this young girl to be so formidable.
No longer daring to question her, he took a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped the sweat from his wife’s brow as she gritted her teeth against the pain. "Hang in there a little longer, dear," he murmured.
As they kept busy, dusk approached.
Meanwhile, in another dilapidated building, a man with a scar on his face said grimly, "What did you say? Nothing happened at the clinic, and the pregnant women from the lumber camp were also brought over?"
The messenger bowed his head, fearing his boss’s anger. "Yes, it’s been quiet over there. We couldn’t get close. In the end, the lumber camp sent those pregnant women over with a tractor."
The scarred man’s hand clenched around the enamel mug, veins bulging. "Hurry up and find out what exactly happened!"
As soon as he finished speaking, someone ran in. "Boss, I’ve found out! The doctor at the clinic actually managed to counteract the poison we used."
The scarred man leaped up. "Impossible! That stuff was only recently developed; they haven’t even created an antidote for it yet. How could someone have countered it?"
"But the information we’ve received confirms the poison was countered. We couldn’t find out anything more. The clinic is now guarded by the security team, so we can’t get close."
The scarred man slammed the enamel mug he was holding onto the ground. "Damn it! Our first move has turned out to be a complete waste."
His expression was frightening. "Skinny, go gather a few brothers. Those from the lumber camp just arrived; it’s impossible for everyone’s poison to be counteracted so quickly. Let’s cause some chaos. Even if only a few of them suffer for it, our efforts won’t have been entirely in vain."
The tall, skinny man heeded his boss’s order. "Okay, I’ll arrange it right now."
The scarred man shot him a cold glance. "Lead the team yourself."
