Auntie Wei finished speaking and only then noticed Huo Jingrui, who had followed Yunyi in. "And who might this be?"
Yunyi introduced him with a smile, "Auntie Wei, this is my fiancé."
Auntie Wei was taken aback by this revelation and couldn’t quite process it. "When did this happen?"
Before Yunyi could answer, Huo Jingrui spoke up, "Hello, I am Huo Jingrui."
Auntie Wei looked at Huo Jingrui. Although she was extremely curious, she knew this was Yunyi’s private matter. As merely a neighbor, there were some things she shouldn’t inquire too deeply into. "Look at me," she chided herself good-naturedly, "I just wasn’t quick enough on the uptake. Please, come inside."
Looking at Huo Jingrui, she thought he must be nearly one meter ninety tall. His appearance was unquestionably striking—a true gentleman indeed. He and Yunyi were a perfect match: a handsome man and a beautiful woman. Presumably, he had come along because he was worried Yunyi would be taken advantage of.
The group went straight into the living room. "Auntie Wei, why are you over here today?" Yunyi asked.
Auntie Wei poured them two glasses of water with a smile, saying, "Hongjun and his wife have been very busy at the factory these past few days. Knowing you would definitely return in a day or two, I thought I’d wait for you here."
Yunyi recalled the woman she had encountered earlier. "Auntie Wei, has that family come over these past few days?"
Auntie Wei waved her hand dismissively. "No, they haven’t. But that old man’s second daughter-in-law does seem to stroll around here quite often without any particular business. That woman is very scheming; you should be careful."
Yunyi didn’t conceal anything. "When I was coming back just now, I ran into a woman who claimed to be my grandfather’s niece-in-law. I guess she’s the one you’re talking about."
Auntie Wei’s expression grew serious. "She didn’t say anything unpleasant, did she?"
Yun Yiyi knew from Auntie Wei’s words that the woman must have said her share of improper remarks; otherwise, Auntie Wei wouldn’t have asked. She then explained, "She wanted me to go with her to pay respects to the elders. I managed to politely turn her away."
Auntie Wei opened her mouth and sighed internally. She struggled with how to broach the topic. If she said too much, Yunyi might think she was eyeing the house for herself, but saying nothing made her feel guilty. However, recalling how Yunyi had helped her family in the past, she couldn’t overcome that internal conflict. Finally, she said, "Yunyi, you and Hongyan get along well, so there are a few things I want to warn you about. That old man seems kind, but his second daughter-in-law is clearly no pushover."
