Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant novel Chapter 479

Chapter 479: Chapter 479: Remember the Food, Not the Beatings

Yunyi glanced at the people present, taking in the expressions on everyone’s faces.

Jiang Yuli’s look of disappointment was clear. She didn’t even need to guess to know Jiang Yuli was scheming something.

The relationship was acknowledged, and to Yunyi, this was like gaining a distant relative. Noticing it was getting late, she spoke, "I hurried back to Beijing without any chance to prepare. Let’s go to the state-owned restaurant nearby for a meal; it’ll be our kinship celebration feast."

Chu Yucheng nodded. "A celebration is indeed in order."

Actually, their family’s move to Beijing wasn’t solely because their daughter and son-in-law’s family lived in Beijing. It was also because their eldest grandson and granddaughter had gotten into some trouble back in Ning City, making it impossible for them to live a normal life there.

Initially, he had been hesitant about his daughter and son-in-law’s suggestion. After all, the family had always lived in Ning City, and it wasn’t a simple matter to just pick up and leave. Even though his daughter and son-in-law were in Beijing, it was still an unfamiliar place to them.

It wasn’t until he encountered someone in a state-owned restaurant. This person mentioned that Chu Yucheng closely resembled a doctor they knew. After Chu Yucheng asked for more details and confirmed several times, he became strongly convinced that this doctor was very likely his own long-lost elder brother. This conviction was what finally made him decide to move the entire family to Beijing.

Unfortunately, upon arrival, he learned that his elder brother had already passed away; he had arrived too late.

But regardless, his brother’s granddaughter was still his kin, whether by blood or adoption. She was a descendant of his elder brother, and acknowledging this relationship would fulfill his long-held wish. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Yunyi turned to Auntie Wei. "Auntie, I’m afraid I might not be thorough enough. Please come with us; you can help me look after everyone."

Auntie Wei was also worried about Yunyi and naturally agreed.

Jiang Yuli looked at the small courtyard, a flash of resentment in her eyes. She had planned to move in first. Once she was settled, it wouldn’t be up to others to make her leave. She just hadn’t expected that wretched girl’s fiancé to be so formidable.

When the group arrived at the state-owned restaurant, Chu Yucheng thought that, being the elder and bringing a whole family along, he should pay for the meal.

But Yunyi couldn’t agree; as the host, she naturally should be the one to pay.

However, with Huo Jingrui there, Yunyi didn’t need to worry about anything, as he was busy making all the arrangements.

Huo Jingrui naturally wouldn’t let Yunyi lose face, but he also didn’t arrange anything too extravagant, as the true character of this large family was still something they needed to observe.

At the dinner table, Bai Shuangjiang, the Chu Family’s eldest son’s wife, chatted warmly with Yunyi. She often pulled her own daughter, Chu Gaotao, and her husband’s eldest niece, Chu Xiaojue, into the conversation, thinking they would surely get along since they were of similar ages.

However, Chu Xiaojue seemed rather indifferent towards Yunyi. Perhaps she felt that befriending Yunyi was pointless, as Yunyi was a sent-down youth, and it was uncertain if she could ever return to the Capital.

Huo Jingrui was indeed exceptionally handsome, and clearly well-off and capable—after all, he had been the one handling everything since they entered the state-owned restaurant.

Yunyi accepted the water Huo Jingrui handed her. "There’s a saying: ’Habits become second nature.’ If you behave like this in front of outsiders, I’m afraid..."

Jiang Yuli didn’t let Yunyi finish. "Alright, alright! It’s such a trivial matter, and you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. Besides, we elders are still sitting here."

Seeing her give Yunyi a sour look, Huo Jingrui retorted, "If you don’t listen to good advice, you’ll suffer the consequences. My Yi’er was just offering a kind reminder. Whether you heed it or not is your business."

That one sentence instantly pushed away the rapport they had just managed to build.

Yunyi wasn’t the least bit angered by Huo Jingrui’s words. She had no blood ties with this large family. If it weren’t for her grandfather, they would be complete strangers.

Acknowledging them as relatives was one thing, but she would never tolerate them putting on airs as elders in front of her.

Chu Yucheng shot his second son a displeased glare. "You really never learn your lesson! You’ve only been in Beijing for a few days, and you’ve already forgotten all that trouble you were in? If you’re going to be like this, then all of you can just pack up and go back to Ning City!"

Yunyi, ever so perceptive, realized that finding relatives was likely just a pretext. There had to be other hidden reasons for their move.
