Huo Jingrui didn’t stay long at Yunyi’s place. After all, with new developments, he had to return to the county to meet with the armed forces department to arrange a team to monitor Zhang Dali and find the cave he mentioned.
They would set up surveillance there.
Yunyi, recalling what Zhang Dali had said, planned to head to the mountains after the steamed buns, dumplings, and sweet triangles in the courtyard kitchen were ready to try and find that cave.
But before she could take action, she heard someone knocking on the courtyard door.
Standing at the kitchen door, she asked, "Who is it?"
From outside came the reply, "It’s me, Gu Xibei."
Yunyi was momentarily surprised to hear it was Gu Xibei and thought: Why is he here?
She went over to open the door, "Brother Gu, what brings you here?"
Gu Xibei, gazing at the increasingly captivating Yunyi, felt his heartbeat quicken inexplicably: "I was passing by on a mission and thought I’d stop by to see you."
Yunyi stepped aside, "Come in."
After he entered the courtyard, she didn’t close the door to avoid gossipy remarks, especially since it was just the two of them.
As soon as Gu Xibei entered, he caught the scent of wheat filling the courtyard: "Are you preparing for the New Year?"
Yunyi nodded with a smile, "Yes, the New Year is just a few days away, so I’m getting ready."
Yunyi led him inside. Gu Xibei noticed the supplies on the cabinet: "I didn’t expect you to have prepared so much, young lady."
Yunyi picked up a cup to pour him some water: "Those were sent by my fiancé."
