Chapter 116
Chapter 116
Corey was startled by her sudden change of expression. Under Sophia’s piercing ley gaze, he stammered out the name, “H–he… he’s called Zachary
‘So it is him after all, thought Sophia, a dangerously sinister smile curling at her lips as she turned on her heel and walked away.
Zachary was supposed to show up much later. ‘Did this happen because I strayed from the plot, or did Yvette regain her memories and cause this change?‘ she wondered. Either way, since he was already here, he wasn’t going anywhere.
Back at the Chandler residence, Sophia’s expression remained grim. Her face was a cold mask, but the pent–up fury within gave her an almost feral,
violent aura.
Sophia thought, ‘Damn it! I can’t stand this–these people, this place, everything about it just makes my blood boil.
The rage pushed Sophia to the brink. With a crash, she began smashing things. The servants scattered, not daring to intervene. In minutes, the living room was a disaster zone–shattered vases, overturned furniture, and decorative pieces reduced to splinters littered the floor.
Sophia slumped to the floor against the sofa, one leg bent, her arm draped over her knee, head hanging low. After the violent outburst, a heavy gloom
settled over her.
Just then, Yvette walked in, startled by the mess. “What happened?” she demanded.
The servants shook their heads, too terrified to speak.
Yvette frowned down at Sophia, who was slumped on the floor, and reprimanded her, “Sophia, why did you smash everything? Just look at the mess you’ve made.”
Sophia didn’t even look up, her voice dripping with icy disdain: “Get lost.”
“What the hell is wrong with-” Yvette demanded angrily.
Before Yvette could finish, Sophia snatched up the nearest shard of broken glass and hurled it straight at her.
Yvette couldn’t dodge in time–a shard of glass grazed her cheek. She gasped in horror, her fingers flying to the wound. “My face! It’s… it’s bleeding!” she shrieked, staring at the crimson streaks on her fingertips.
Sophia sprang to her feet and, in one fluid motion, delivered a sharp backhand slap–with a sharp crack–across Yvette’s face.
“Sophia! How dare you treat me like this? I’m your-” Yvette’s words were abruptly cut off by a piercing scream.
Sophia yanked Yvette up by the hair, slapped her hard across the face several times, and then flung her onto the sofa. She wrapped her fingers around Yvette’s throat and burst into hysterical laughter, her eyes wild with madness. “What are you, Yvette?”
‘Why won’t you die? I damn well chopped off your head. Everyone else is dead. Why do I have to relive this hell? What the hell do I have to do to finally be free of this nightmare?‘ Sophia thought to herself.
“H–help… help me…” Yvette gasped, Sophia’s hands crushing her throat. Her vision blurred–face turning purple, eyes rolling back. The suffocating terror made her heart pound with helpless fear. She didn’t know if Sophia was really going to kill her.
The servants, sensing danger and fearing for Yvette’s life, rushed in to pull her to safety. Sophia–never truly intending to strangle her–let go without
resistance.
After being rescued, Yvette scrambled out of the Chandler residence in a panic, screaming, “Help! Someone’s trying to kill me! Please, help me!”
Evander was driving past the Chandler residence when suddenly, a woman dashed into the road. He slammed on the brakes, tires screeching violently against the pavement as the car jerked to a stop.
Evander frowned. He hadn’t planned to get involved, but since the woman had come running out of the Chandler residence, he got out of the car, his face

icy. “Do you have a death wish, running out like that?”
Wette crumpled to the ground, her arms raw from two long scrapes where they’d dragged across the pavement. Looking up at Evander, eyes brimmons with tears, she choked out in a pitiful voice, “Evander, Sophia tried to kill me!”
Evander’s brow furrowed deeper as he regarded her with cold skepticism.
Wette’s eyes welled up with tears as she put on her most pitiful expression and whimpered, “Evander, I’m hurt. It really hurts.
“Evander!” Just then, Dorian came running out of his house. “I spotted your car from a mile away! What are you-”
Dorian was beaming, his eyes curved in delight, but the moment he spotted Yvette, the smile was instantly wiped off his face. “Oh, it’s you,” he said sharply. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to stage an accident?”
Evander asked coldly, “You know her?”
Dorian curled his lip in disdain. “Of course I do. She’s Sophia’s: so–called ‘long–lost sister‘–the one who disappeared for eighteen years before finally being ‘found!”
With tears welling up in her eyes, Yvette stared at Evander, her face full of grievance
Evander thought Yvette clearly had issues. “Need a hospital?” he asked coldly.
Yvette sniffled pitifully. “I… I can’t move. Could you… carry me?”
Evander stared at her in silence.
and hurt.
Dorian’s eyes widened in disbelief as he glared warily at Yvette. “Yvette, seriously, have you no shame? Are you trying to stage an accident with my brother? Or do you actually have a crush on him?”
Before Evander could respond, Dorian cut in sharply, “No way!” Evander felt a headache coming on, ignored Yvette, and motioned for his bodyguards to
handle it.
Yvette stared at him in utter disbelief, her voice breaking with desperation. “Evander, how can you treat me like this? Sophia tried to kill me! How could
you-”
Before she could finish, Dorian shot her a glare and sneered, “Yvette, do you really think you’re that important? Sophia is so smart and capable. If she wanted you dead, she’d have a thousand ways to make it happen without ever getting her hands dirty.
“Know who you’re lying to. Do you think I’m stupid? You jinx, stay the hell away from us.”
As he spoke, Dorian darted over and grabbed Evander’s arm, clinging to him possessively. Evander didn’t even spare Yvette a glance as he brushed right past her. On his way out, Dorian wrinkled his nose at Yvette and shot her a smug, mocking grin.
Dorian let out a disgruntled huff and glared at Evander. “Evander, you can pick anyone to be my sister–in–law–anyone but her.”
“Dorian,” Evander sighed, a rare look of resignation breaking through his icy expression. “I didn’t say anything, okay?”
Dorian snorted coldly. “I’m warning you. Stay away from that woman. I hate her, absolutely despise her. If you dare fall for that jinx, I’ll I’ll kill myself right in front of you.”
Evander’s expression darkened instantly. “Don’t talk such nonsense!” he snapped.
Dorian puffed out his cheeks in a pout. “Promise me.”
Evander sighed in resignation. “Fine, I promise.” Truth be told, he hadn’t even gotten a proper look at Yvette’s face. Falling for her was out of the question.
Before deciding to let Dorian follow Sophia, Evander had already investigated the Chandlers. He knew that ever since Yvette–the so–called long–lost

daughter–returned, she had stirred up a storm. If not for Dorian, he would have avoided any contact with the Chandlers.
Once he agreed, Dorian’s big round eyes instantly crinkled with satisfaction. He warned playfully, “You’d better keep your word, or I’ll throw a fit
Evander ruffled his hair with a mix of exasperation and fondness. “Don’t say things like that again.”
Dorian grinned dismissively. “Yeah, yeah, got it.”
That night, Sophia dreamed again.
She was forcibly committed to SWPC by the combined efforts of the Chandler family and Yvette’s men. The psychiatrist assigned to her case was none other than Zachary, a world–renowned expert.
Zachary diagnosed her condition as severe, insisting she posed an imminent threat to others and couldn’t be allowed outside. What was more disturbing, he seemed fascinated by her case. From the moment she was admitted to SWPC, Zachary assumed the position of associate director.
He watched her every move, every single day. Her hospital ward was under 24/7 surveillance–he personally gave her injections and watched over her as she took every pill, never relaxing his vigilance for even a moment.
Just like that, she spent an entire year under Zachary’s relentless surveittance. Then, one day, he vanished without a trace.
