Reborn to Burn Them All novel Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Maybe they were too scared. Howard and Heather stayed upstairs all day. Heather didn’t show up until dinner.

Jonathan and Sean had no business events today. Elliot was out of the country for work. Howard still hadn’t come downstairs. At the dinner table, everyone quietly agreed not to bring up what happened last night.

“Heather, here’s your favorite, balsamic vinegar steak,” Heather said as she put a piece on Yvette’s plate. She also ladled her a bowl of chicken soup, taking care of her like she was a child.

Sophia gave a faint smile. “I don’t like balsamic vinegar steak. I like black pepper steak.”

Heather’s hand froze. She looked up at Sophia’s smiling face, her own expression stiff. “What else would you like? I’ll have them make it for you,” she said warmly, but her voice sounded forced.

Sure enough, after Heather spoke, Sophia saw Yvette’s face darken a little.

Sophia grinned brightly. “Never mind. Maybe tomorrow. I just want some chicken soup for now.”

Heather didn’t notice Yvette’s change in mood. She had already figured out what happened last night and was only worried Sophia might start talking to Jonathan.

Hearing that Sophia wanted chicken soup, Heather quickly filled a bowl and gave it to her.

“Thanks, my dear mom,” Sophia said with a beaming smile and made a big heart with her hands.

Heather’s smile stiffened. “As long as you’re happy.”

Jonathan saw this and thought Sophia had listened to what he told her this

morning. He smiled with relief.

“Sophia, your SAT scores are out. Have you thought about which college you want to go to? What major will you pick?” Jonathan asked while the mood was good.

Sophia enjoyed her soup and didn’t even look up. “I’ve already decided. You don’t need to worry about it.”

Then, as if she thought of something, she looked up and smiled. “What do you guys think about the Computer Science program at Jelasburg University?”

Jonathan frowned a little. “You want to study computer science?”

Sean said, “If you want to study computers, you should go to Halinston University.”

“Not your business. I’m going to Jelasburg University,” Sophia said like a stubborn kid, then she turned to Heather. “Mom, which one do you think is better, Jelasburg or Halinston?”

Of course, Heather thought Halinston University was better. But after opening her mouth and hesitating, she forced herself to say, “Your scores are good enough. Go wherever you like. As long as you’re happy.”

Sophia smiled. “See? Mom’s still the best. I love you, Mom.”

Heather’s smile grew even stiffer.

Yvette tightened her grip on her fork. Her face darkened as she stared down at her plate.

Sean gave Sophia a complicated look, deep in thought.

Sophia ate happily. Heather had prepared a lot of her favorite dishes. If

Sophia hadn’t acted like a lunatic before, the family dinner would have actually felt pretty warm.

At the table, only Yvette seemed distracted, barely touching her food. She stared at the meat on her plate and, for some reason, thought about all the snakes on the floor last night.

Feeling sick, Yvette covered her mouth and rushed into the downstairs bathroom.

Seeing this, Sophia said casually, “Oh no, is she pregnant?”

She really just said it without thinking, but the other three at the table immediately froze. Heather quickly got up and ran toward the bathroom.

Watching their reactions, Sophia suddenly found it funny. An idea popped into her head, and she added, “I heard the Sampson family’s son is only two or three years older than Yvette. They grew up together and were really close.”

wrong.

Kevin didn’t say much in front of her. He just kept comforting her in the softest voice. After a long time, he finally coaxed her to sleep.

The moment Yvette fell asleep, the gentle look on Kevin’s face disappeared. His expression turned cold and deadly.

He grabbed his phone and car keys and drove four hours through the night straight to Jelasburg.

When Kevin got there, he parked outside the luxury neighborhood where the Chandler family lived. His face was dark as he scrolled through the background info and profiles his assistant had sent him about everyone in the Chandler family.

“Sophia Chandler,” he growled through gritted teeth.

When he saw what Sophia had done to Yvette at the welcome party, Kevin’s eyes turned blood–red, and a cold, dangerous air surrounded him.

Meanwhile, Sophia, completely unaware that Kevin now had a grudge against her, slept pretty well that night. She even woke up early the next morning.

As soon as she stepped out of her room, she saw Yvette sneaking around with her phone, hurrying downstairs and out the door.

Sophia stood there, arms crossed, her eyes narrowing slightly. She watched Yvette’s rushing figure and thought about how pitiful Yvette had looked yesterday.

“The heroine’s pretty weak this time. I haven’t even started yet, and she’s already falling apart,” Sophia muttered to herself.

In the original story, Yvette had always been that kind of character. Whenever she felt wronged, she wouldn’t explain anything–she’d just cry quietly. And sure enough, one by one, big shots from all kinds of circles would come rushing in to fight for her.

Right now, the one Yvette was probably running to was Kevin Sampson.
