Chapter 66

At the police station, three girls stood closely together, looking upset. Sophia saf down casually and smiled sweetly at the officer. Officer do you h more questions you’d like to ask?

The officer gave her a glass of water and paused before talking. Ms. Chandler, those three are minors, and your car is too pricey

Sophia nodded. I understand.

Since the troublemakers were minors, it was likely that this would be overlooked. But Sophia didn’t want to let it goshe wanted this to be a big deal

Although Charlotte was not in charge of this area, Sophia still called her, Charlotte, are you busy right now?

Sophia’s voice was soft and shaky, like she might cry.

Charlotte immediately felt something was wrong. What happened? Where are you? Are you okay?

Sophia blinked, and tears started rolling down her face. She sniffled, trying to keep her voice steady.

She said, I was visiting a friend, but some girls scratched my car, let the air out of the tires, and splashed red paint on it. I got so scared I called the police, but the troublemakers are three minors.

Before she could finish, Charlotte’s voice came in, firm and comforting. Stay there. I’m on my way.

After giving Charlotte the address, Sophia hung up and called James right away.

Less than half an hour later, Charlotte and James reached the police station and saw each other at the entrance.

They exchanged surprised looks, not expecting to see each other.

Charlotte’s glance shifted, and she quickly looked away. A friend’s car got messed up. I came to check on her.”

James hesitated for a moment, sounding a bit awkward. Same here.

Not saying much more, Charlotte nodded briefly and walked inside! James watched her for a moment and followed.

Charlotte and James moved towards Sophia, pausing in surprise when they realized they had both been called by Sophia. They exchanged awkward

looks.

Sophia noticed them and playfully greeted them.

Charlotte said, Let me find out what’s happening.Even though this wasn’t her precinct, she knew most officers hereall her colleagues.

James’s gaze lingered on Charlotte’s back as she walked away, his face hard to read. Seeing this, Sophia waved a hand in front of him and teased, Admit ityou like Charlotte, don’t you?

James jumped a little, losing his usual calm for a moment. He lowered his voice, Stop joking around.”

Sophia crossed her arms, saying seriously, Mr. Eyans, liking someone isn’t a crime. Stop being so wimpyit’s not very manly.

James took a deep breath, regaining his serious side. Ms. Chandler, I’m working now. Let’s focus on the case.

But Sophia wasn’t going to let it go. Listen to me, Mr. Evansif you ignore me now, you’ll regret it later.

Choosing to overlook her teasing, James turned to the officer in charge, handed his business card, and said, I’m James, Sophia Chandler’s lawyer.

Chapter 66

Sophia propped her thin on her hand, looking relaxed, but her eyes thowed a dark depth, hinting at the steint breanng inside han

Soon, two guardians arrived and turned the police station into a dramatic scene with their crying.

Sophia found the whole show kind of funny, a slight smirk appearing on her face.

My girl is still young, she doesn’t know your car was so expensive. It’s just a scratchcan’t it be fixed easily? Everyone has car insurance these day d won’t cost much, one of the guardians argued.

The other one was much harsher. She slapped her granddaughter in frustration, her voice rising with anger. You little troublemaker. Why did you scraten her car? Your parents work really hard, and this is how you act?

This car is so expensivehow could we pay for it? Why don’t you just put them in jail? We don’t have the money anyway

They’re just kids; they don’t know any better. If they had known how much the car cost, they wouldn’t have done it.

The two of them went back and forth, their voices rising and overlapping until the police station buzzed with noise. The officers rubbed their temples in frustration, clearly struggling with the situation. Dealing with three minors was turning out to be a real headache.

Sophia decided it was time to step in. She sniffled softly and let tears gather in her eyes. So, just because my car’s expensive, it’s okay to ruin it? They didn’t just scratch itthey wrote curses on it and even tried to splash red paint on me.

Sophia clung to Charlotte, her body shaking dramatically. I was lucky to dodge in time. Charlotte, I’m terrified. What if it had been acid instead of paint? I could’ve been hurt badly.

My car was a birthday gift from my dad. It’s the only gift he has ever given me, and I’ve only driven it twice. Now it’s ruined. I’m heartbroken, she said.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

Charlotte, she said, her voice heavy with sadness, does being a minor mean you can destroy other people’s stuff without paying for it?

Sure, they’re minors, but their guardians aren’t. If their kids do something wrong, it’s because the guardians didn’t teach them properly. Why should others pay for their mistakes?she added, her words sharp and clear.

Their guardians didn’t apologize and even refused to payit’s no surprise their kids are being rude, she said, her tone full of contempt.

One of the guardians showed a flicker of guilt, but the other one cursed, Shut up, bitch.

If you care so much about your car, why didn’t you just leave it in the garage instead of driving it out? My granddaughter just made a small mistake, and now you want money. This is extortion.

The officers frowned, their expressions darkening as they listened.

Sophia said, I don’t know them, so why did they target my car and even curse me?

The room fell quiet for a moment, the tension thick in the air.

Sophia added, They’re probably fans of Howard Chandler. Howard went on a livestream saying I pushed him down the stairs and hurt him. They must’ve wanted to get back at me.

Who’s Howard?one of the guardians asked, clearly not knowing about her granddaughter’s obsession. She turned to her granddaughter, her tone demanding an explanation.

The girl fidgeted nervously, glancing at Sophia/Sophia’s lips curled into a mocking smile, her eyes shining with amusement and challenge.

The girl glared at Sophia, her face scrunched up with rage. She screamed, She’s the one who pushed Howard down the stairs. She’s a murderer. All I did was scratch her car, but she hurt him. She deserves to die.
