Lin Zhiyi started feeling sleepy not long after hearing Gong Chen speak.
In a daze, she saw Gong Chen walk to the bedside and lightly kiss both her and Xingxing.
Then he opened the door, where Chen Jin was evidently waiting outside for some time.
"Third Young Master, everything is ready."
"Mm."
Gong Chen glanced back into the room before leaving. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Lin Zhiyi wanted to open her eyes but felt as if she were trapped, soon falling into an even deeper sleep.
...
The hospital.
When Du Qian returned to the hospital, he noticed his colleagues giving him strange looks.
He initially thought it was about his situation with Lin Zhiyi.
But before he could explain, a nurse hurried up to him.
"Doctor Du, the director is waiting for you in the conference room."
Du Qian’s expression tightened, but he maintained his composure. "Do you know what this is about?"
The nurse shook her head and walked away.
Du Qian quickly went to the conference room and opened the door, finding not only the hospital leaders but also a woman with ear-length short hair standing beside them.
It was Qiao Yunke.
Du Qian frowned; yesterday, he had asked Qiao Yunke to take leave and leave Gang City.
Why was she still here?
He immediately thought of Xingxing’s medical report.
If that was the case, he wasn’t worried anymore.
Du Qian politely stepped forward and said, "Director, if Doctor Qiao said anything, I sincerely apologize. Perhaps she misunderstood the nature of our relationship earlier, but truthfully, we’re not that close, and I already have someone in my heart."
Du Qian implied Qiao Yunke had feelings for him but was thwarted and now slandering him.
The director listened, but his expression did not soften; instead, it grew even more severe.
Qiao Yunke sneered, "Doctor Du, what are you saying? We never had any relationship to begin with. Why would I care who you have feelings for?"
Du Qian was taken aback, looking at Qiao Yunke in confusion.
The director spoke sternly, "Someone reported that you have mental health issues. This is the psych evaluation report you secretly took at another hospital. How could you hide something so important from us? With such a mental state, how can you treat patients?"
"Impossible!" Du Qian retorted loudly.
Everyone in the room was startled; Du Qian had always been composed and polite, never raising his voice.
The director became increasingly convinced of the report’s authenticity.
He tossed the report in front of Du Qian.
"See for yourself."
Du Qian opened it and found the medical records impeccably detailed.
The diagnosis: he had mania.
Du Qian tore the report to pieces. "Director, this is slander! I don’t have it!"
The director looked at the fragments on the floor with a grim expression. "If you claim you don’t have it, then go to the psychiatric department and get reassessed. I’ll personally oversee it."
"..."
Du Qian stood frozen in place.
He knew his current mental state; even if it wasn’t mania, it could very well be something else.
How could this happen?
Du Qian felt as if an invisible hand was forcing him into a dead-end.
The director rose angrily. "What? Afraid? Take proper rest for now. We’ll discuss the decisions about your case further."
"Director..."
Du Qian tried to explain, but the director wouldn’t listen.
He clenched his fists in anger, catching a glimpse of Qiao Yunke from the corner of his eye.
Pointing at her, he immediately said, "Doctor Qiao can vouch for me!"
Qiao Yunke replied expressionlessly, "Doctor Du, you just claimed we aren’t that familiar. How could I know whether or not you have mental illness?"
The words "mental illness" struck a nerve with Du Qian, and he shouted, "Qiao Yunke! Don’t forget..."
"Don’t forget what, Doctor Du? Speak clearly," Qiao Yunke retorted.
What else could it be?
It was nothing but the photos and videos with which Du Qian had blackmailed her over the years.
All due to a drunken confession she made to him—he had taken advantage of her inebriated state to coerce her into humiliating actions.
Afterward, Du Qian claimed he was drunk too and hadn’t expected her to harbor such inclinations.
His gaze made her feel utterly worthless.
