Lin Zhiyi suddenly felt her cheek itch. She raised her hand to sweep it away, but the tingling sensation only seemed to grow stronger.
When she came to her senses and turned her head, the man close at hand startled her.
She dodged slightly, and as her body tilted toward the hospital bed, he pulled her back, locking her in his arms.
"What are you thinking about?" Gong Chen asked in a low voice.
"Li He is dead." Lin Zhiyi pressed her lips together.
Gong Chen hummed softly, showing no particular emotion.
Instead, his gaze kept sweeping across Lin Zhiyi’s face.
Lin Zhiyi wasn’t sure if it was her illusion, but it seemed like Gong Chen was laughing.
No wonder he was feared as the Third Young Master—he could even laugh after hearing about his good friend’s younger brother’s death.
But soon, Lin Zhiyi realized he wasn’t laughing because of Li He.
She frowned and asked, "Third Young Master, what are you laughing at?"
Gong Chen cleared his throat. "Nothing."
Something was off about him.
Lin Zhiyi turned her head to look at Xingxing and suddenly noticed her nose was red, with six whiskers drawn on her face.
"Xingxing, what’s going on?"
"A rabbit." Xingxing pointed to the bunny in her drawing book, then pointed at herself. "Xingxing Bunny."
Lin Zhiyi smiled wryly, but when she caught Xingxing’s guilty expression, her smile froze. A sense of foreboding surged in her chest.
She immediately raised her phone and used the screen as a mirror.
"My face!"
It must’ve been while she was lost in thought earlier that Xingxing took advantage of her distraction to doodle on her.
Xingxing giggled mischievously and pointed at Lin Zhiyi. "Mommy Rabbit."
"Hmm." Gong Chen couldn’t help but laugh.
Lin Zhiyi gave him a light shove. "You did this on purpose!"
Gong Chen curved his lips and leaned slightly, as if cooperating.
"It’s quite cute."
He stared at Lin Zhiyi, his gaze intense and heated.
The man made no effort to hide his feelings for her. If not for the child being present, there was no way he’d just sit there so properly.
Lin Zhiyi quickly looked away, lifting her hand to wipe her face.
Gong Chen grabbed her wrist. "Let me do it."
He pulled out a handkerchief, poured a little water from the cup, and carefully wiped her nose.
Xingxing’s marker was water-soluble, so it faded as soon as it touched water.
But the wet, red nose looked even more pitiful.
Even someone as stoic as Gong Chen, who rarely showed much emotion, had a hard time keeping a straight face at her current appearance.
Lin Zhiyi sneaked a glance at her phone screen and felt certain he was doing it on purpose.
"Uncle..." she gritted her teeth and said.
"I’m not your uncle," Gong Chen frowned, reminding her.
"Is this funny to you? Uncle."
"Who wants to be your uncle..."
Before Gong Chen could finish, he froze in place.
Lin Zhiyi rarely initiated closeness with him, let alone this close—close enough for their noses to touch.
After she approached, she realized what she was doing and tried to escape, but Gong Chen caught her and tightly gripped her waist.
His face leaned forward abruptly, his dark eyes swirling ominously.
Lin Zhiyi raised her hand to push him away. "Xingxing is here."
Gong Chen glanced at Xingxing.
Xingxing blinked twice, then immediately lowered her head to focus on her drawing.
Lin Zhiyi widened her eyes. Why had her own daughter switched sides so quickly?
And the one who started it all was now staring straight at her.
She turned her head to avoid his gaze, but it met Gong Chen’s dangerous eyes.
He raised his hand, gently wiped his own nose, and glanced at the faint red on his fingertip. Casually, he brushed his fingers across his lips.
His thin lips silently mouthed a line.
Next time, I’ll get my revenge.
Dressed impeccably in a three-piece suit, Gong Chen exuded a restrained yet deadly danger.
