Lin Zhiyi grabbed the picture book back and hurriedly explained: "Xingxing, don’t listen to him talk nonsense. It says here that when walking, you must watch traffic lights, don’t rush while eating, and never try to poke the socket with your hand."
Xingxing pondered: "Bumbum didn’t die, right?"
"Didn’t die. Look, it went to the park to play with its friends."
Lin Zhiyi flipped to the last page and pointed at the little animals holding hands.
Only then did Xingxing feel reassured and close her eyes, falling into a deep sleep.
Gong Chen was somewhat surprised, fiddled with Xingxing’s little hand, and said deeply: "She just fell asleep, so quickly?"
"Even when she was younger it was the same. One moment she was laughing, the next she laughed herself to sleep."
Lin Zhiyi tucked Xingxing in and gestured with her eyes to Gong Chen to leave.
Gong Chen sensed she wanted to talk, so he tucked Xingxing’s exposed hand back under the covers.
Stepping quietly out of the room, Lin Zhiyi went to the living room and took an ear thermometer from the medicine box she brought.
"Did you check today? Fevers can recur easily."
"No."
Gong Chen rubbed his brow.
Lin Zhiyi handed him the ear thermometer: "Then measure it. I have something to discuss with you."
Gong Chen didn’t take the thermometer; instead, he wrapped his hand around hers, pulled her into his arms, and they fell onto the sofa together.
Lin Zhiyi was trapped before she could react.
"What are you doing?"
"Help me check my temperature, I’m a bit tired."
Lin Zhiyi turned slightly, wanting to refuse but met the man’s deep, black eyes.
As if a single ripple would ignite the fire within them.
She had matters to attend to and didn’t want to provoke him, so she moved her wrist a bit: "Let go, or how can I check?"
"Mm."
Gong Chen released her, lifting his eyes to gaze at Lin Zhiyi.
Lin Zhiyi raised her hand, deliberately ignoring his gaze, yet she couldn’t avoid the unique and dangerous aura emanating from him.
It persistently lingered in her nostrils, sparking intimate memories.
First it was the kiss, he liked teasing her, seemingly going from surface to depth, when in fact he controlled everything, until people’s heads spun.
Then it was...
Though it happened long ago, her mind would occasionally invoke memories of their married years.
The heated breaths beside the ear, sweaty skin, not stopping until utterly exhausted.
In thought, Lin Zhiyi unconsciously swallowed, somehow it made a loud gulping sound.
Instantly, the surroundings fell into silence.
Lin Zhiyi was terribly embarrassed.
His hand at her waist gradually tightened, as if to squeeze it till breaking.
Suddenly, Gong Chen leaned close and sucked on her neck forcefully.
Lin Zhiyi froze. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Not until the beep sounded, marking the thermometer’s completion, did she come to realize the sting on her neck.
"Let go of me."
Gong Chen released her, but his face remained against her neck, panting: "Is it hot?"
Lin Zhiyi looked down at the thermometer: "Normal."
"I feel I’m not quite normal..."
Gong Chen pinched her waist, shifting her closer to his body.
Lin Zhiyi was startled.
Indeed not normal.
"You... let me go."
He didn’t move, and in a low voice said: "Are you planning to tell me you’ll accompany Sang Li to tomorrow’s banquet?"
Lin Zhiyi looked at him in surprise: "You already know?"
She was startled when Sang Li called her.
She hadn’t been involved with the Gong Family’s affairs for years, why invite her?
With a thought, she instantly realized it might be related to going to the hospital with Liu He.
"Go ahead." Gong Chen said.
Lin Zhiyi hadn’t expected him to agree so easily, she was a bit surprised: "May I ask you something?"
"Speak."
"No matter what happens, will you believe me?" Lin Zhiyi’s voice was somewhat soft.
Because she wasn’t quite sure about Gong Chen’s thoughts.
