Logan was overwhelmed by an intense sense of discomfort that he had never experienced in all his life. For a moment, he was flustered by the grey energy that infiltrated his body, trying to take control, but as he called upon his Force to resist, the unpleasant sensation dissipated as quickly as snow melting on a spring day.
“Huh?”
The energy that had caused such tension vanished embarrassingly easily.
Logan, still startled, instinctively looked for the source of the attack amidst his confusion. At the center of the enemies, under the escort of imposingly elite knights, stood a figure cloaked in a black robe. As their eyes met, Logan caught a glimpse of the distorted expression beneath the robe.
“Whatever the case may be.”
The target was now clear.
Screeching!
“I’ll kill you!!”
Silver flashed from the horse and rider. Logan, once again the focus of the battlefield, began to cut across enemy lines alone.
“Stop him!”
“He’s alone!”
“Kill him!”
Shouts erupted across the battlefield as the silver knight charged forward. The only way a vast army with no counter could capture an Aura user like him was a human tidal wave, and they surged toward Logan.
Ordinary Aura users would tire and collapse after slaying enough people, but for prepared magicians, it was different. But…
“Get lost!”
With a thundering roar, a brilliant silver beam shot high into the sky, almost 70 meters, then transformed into a giant’s sword, swinging horizontally.
Scheeeerk.
An illusion of space being split open followed, and Logan’s forward troops were decimated, falling regardless of rank – the corner of the battlefield was utterly devastated. The enemies behind, who had merely watched, now screamed in horror, unable to even scream.
“AAAARGH!”
“Ah, demon!”
“It’s a monster!”
‘Now!’
In that instant, Logan dashed forth, teeth clenched, through the panicked enemy soldiers.
Wooong.
The force core in his heart vibrated intensely to replenish the energy that had vanished in more than a third of a heartbeat. It was an overexertion, utilizing Force rather than Aura to cleave the earth, especially because he was already forcefully stretching his energy and the resultant inefficiency was an outrageous waste.
But he couldn’t single-handedly fight off tens of thousands. He needed a show of force to both intimidate the enemy and bolster his allies, and Logan’s strategy worked beautifully.
“Stop him! Do you hear me?!”
“How exactly…”
“Such a monster…”
Despite the commanders’ shouts, the panicked enemies couldn’t block Logan’s charge, evoking cheers from the Liberty Army.
“Silver Reaper!”
“Gale Slayer!”
“The Silver Reaper fights with us!”
After the havoc, there were not as many magic users manipulating the battlefield as before. Following in Logan’s wake, the Liberty Army began to regroup.
“Weren’t you supposed to deal with that monster?! What’s going on now?”
The coalition commander, from the Kingdom of Kaleton, screamed at the black-robed magician before him. His triumph at the collapse of the enemy lines at the beginning of the battle now a completely different memory.
But when the robed magician turned with flashing blue eyes, the commander’s face paled, and from the magician’s lips came a chilling voice.
“Worthless things…”
Surrounded by knights recoiling in fear, the magician Gerohin’s eyes, however, flickered anxiously.
‘Soul Breakers were deployed perfectly. So why?’
This didn’t make sense. Soul Breakers was designed to destroy, not brainwash, unlike Mind Breakers, and especially against superhumans.
‘But he shook it off that easily?’
Logan’s effortless dismissal of a spell carefully magnified by spellcasters would make the very notion of magicians being considered superhumans alongside Aura users seem ridiculous. And their magic was still largely unknown in the world, so it wasn’t likely that defenses had been prepared. Indeed, even if they had, the ease with which Logan overcame it was troubling.
‘The legend of his enemy.’
The force was strongly different.
‘If it’d been a golden aura rather than silver, different measures would’ve been taken.’
As Gerohin refocused and drew up magic, he got word that the contract with the Second Prince had been extended. This meant no excuses for failure this time would be acceptable, and with the Tower set to emerge from the shadows after years of silence, choosing this time to undertake the commission and mark a new settlement in the eastern minor kingdoms was deliberate. Even as one of the Tower elders, repeated failures would not be forgiven.
– ‘The Age When the Gods Left.’ The signs of the prophecy have been confirmed.
Recalling his master and head of the Tower’s words, Gerohin clenched his teeth. Seeing Logan brought the big catch from the Duchy of Tahrir to mind again.
“I’ll kill you!”
Not all his prowess lay in mental magic.
As his predatory voice boomed, grey magic surged with purpose.
‘Magic!’
Logan clearly saw the grey magic in motion, unlike previous attacks that targeted the mind alone.
Fwooosh.
Grey thorny vines sprouted from the ground, ensnaring the charging horse entirely. As Logan and his mount strained against the vines, a tall grey barrier obstructed their sight, and suddenly, a massive black snake lunged forward with its jaws open wide.
“Tch!”
Boom!
The head of the black serpent shattered the space where Logan had been moments before. By then, he had already kicked off the saddle and was leaping through the air towards the magician.
“Haah!”
In no time, he closed the distance to the robed figure, whose pale face now clearly visible to his heightened senses, was surrounded by knights with eerily red eyes and veins popping on their faces.
“KYAAAK!”
