Rejected by my Husband novel Chapter 24

The air in the suddenly turned heavy, suffocating.

Karline’s throat tightened. Her eyes stung as tears welled up, but not from relief, from the unbearable weight of his words. He wasn’t saying it out of love. He wasn’t saying it because he believed in her, or believed in Ethan. He was saying it as if he were saving her from shame, from abandonment.

Her lips trembled, the words barely finding their way out. “Reid…” She pressed a hand to her chest as though trying to hold the pieces of herself together. “Do you even hear yourself? Do you realize what you’re saying to me?”

Reid’s brows furrowed, his expression unyielding. “I’m offering you stability, Karline. A family. I don’t care whose blood runs in that boy’s veins...if his so-called father refuses to show up, I will. Isn’t that enough?”

Her tears finally spilled, rolling hot down her cheeks. She shook her head slowly, painfully. “Enough?” Her voice broke on the word. “You think this is about stability? What about the parental rights you signed off. About what looks right to the world?”

“This isn’t love, Reid!” she cried, her voice echoing in the hallway. “This is pity. This is guilt. You still don’t trust me. You never once stood by me when I screamed that Ethan is yours. And now you stand here, saying you’ll ‘take responsibility’ as if you’re doing me a favor.”

“But you did betray me, Karline,” he said, every word heavy and stern. “And still, I am ready to forgive you. I am ready to give you another chance. Isn’t that something you should be grateful for?”

Karline froze, her breath caught in her throat. Her tears stopped, but only because the pain turned into fire. She slowly turned back to him, her eyes blazing.

“Grateful?” she whispered, her voice trembling with fury. “You want me to be grateful… for what? For being accused of things I never did? For being called unfaithful when I carried your child? For being thrown out of your life when I needed you the most?”

Reid’s jaw tightened, his nostrils flaring, but she didn’t let him speak.

“You say you’re forgiving me, Reid… but what exactly are you forgiving me for? For crimes I never committed? For sins that only existed in Natalie’s lies? Or for being too weak to fight for myself when the man I loved the most stood against me?”

"Really? then why you ever broke me like that? why?"
