Rejected Luna Returns with Secret Twins (Lysandra) novel Chapter 30

Chapter 30

I shifted uncomfortably, adjusting my tie. What’s that look for? Speak!

I’m just trying to understand your real motivation here,he replied with a careless shrug. You seem more confused about what you want than I am. Perhaps I should fetch you a mirror?

My eyes narrowed dangerously. Cut the bullshit. What about what I asked you to investigate last night? Do you have results, or are you too busy playing amateur psychologist?

Our people are on it,Varian replied, unfazed by my tone. We’ll have answers soon. But if you ever want to discuss your feelings, I’m here to listen.

I snarled in response, turning my back to stare out the window.

Later that evening, I paced the small relaxation area of my office, a glass of whiskey dangling from my fingers.

Those twins kept appearing in my mind four or five years old, they looked. Five years since Lysandra left.

I took a long swallow of whiskey, letting it burn down my throat. They can’t be hers, I reasoned. Not biologically. Maybe she was their guardian. Their nanny. A distant relative who’d taken them in.

The door opened with unusual hesitation. Varian entered, his face set in an expression I’d rarely seen apprehension.

What’s got my allpowerful Beta so nervous?I asked, setting down my glass. Is the world ending?

TristanHe spoke my name instead of my title, a rare occurrence that immediately set me on edge.

No jokes tonight? This must be serious. Spit it out.

genuine

Varian handed me a tablet, his hands less steady than usual. It’s confirmed. The twins are Lysandra’s biological

children.

I froze, the words hitting me like a physical blow. What?

My eyes raked over the medical records displayed on the screen. Birth certificates. Hospital records. DNA tests from pack registration files. The evidence was undeniable.

How is this possible? The question fell from my lips before I could stop it.

I scrolled through the documents with increasing agitation, my pulse thundering in my ears. Who’s the father?

Varian watched me carefully. We can’t say with absolute certainty yet, but most reports indicate Kieran spends significant time with the children. He attends their parentteacher conferences and school events. Likelike a father would.

Chapter 30

So Lysandra and Kieran were together before our mate bond was severed,I snarled, my fingers digging into the armrests of my chair. The wood creaked ominously beneath my grip. She was unfaithful to me?

At the time,Varian reminded me quietly, you were the one pushing to end things with her, Tristan.

The memory surfaced unbidden Lysandra standing before me, tears glistening in her emerald eyes.

I want to end our mate bond.

Honey, do we really have to do this?Tears shimmered in her eyes, threatening to spill over.

Why not? What reason do you have to stay in this pack? Continue being a useless Luna?

She shook her head immediately, her voice trembling. Please don’t be like this. II love you, Tris

Throughout our marriage, I’d shown her nothing but contempt and disdain. I couldn’t stand the way she played innocent, always trying to gain sympathy. All those tears, all those hurt looks I’d believed they were part of her manipulation. Her way of trying to get under my skin.

But now

My thoughts raced, pieces clicking into place. She hadn’t left because of Selene. She’d left because she was pregnant with another man’s children. Kieran’s children. She’d made a fool of me in my own house, in my own bed.

The rage that had been simmering below the surface exploded. I shot to my feet, kicking the glass coffee table in front of me. It shattered, sending shards flying across the room.

Liar!I roared.
