"Mommy, don't leave! Don't leave us, please!" Bonnie cried.
For a moment, I didn't know what to do and just sighed. Just then, Zephyr stepped forward and stood beside me.
He questioned, "Why are you still clinging to her if she doesn't like you? Besides, she already has a new boyfriend. Keeping this up won't accomplish anything."
Jackson and Bonnie turned to him, their eyes full of hostility.
Zephyr froze for a moment, swallowing hard. Then, he straightened his back. "What are you looking at? Yeah, I'm talking about myself. What about it?"
A guffaw escaped Jackson, mockery evident in his gaze. "Do you even know who she is? She's my wi—"
Before he could finish, Zephyr's clear voice rang out across the classroom. "She's Quinn Miller—with double 'N,' double 'L,' and no, she's no longer your wife."
I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the tension and stubbornness in his eyes.
Jackson's face paled. He forced a smile, looking at me as if he were begging for confirmation. "No, it can't be… Quinn, tell me this isn't real."
Even Bonnie was in disbelief. "Mommy, he's lying, isn't he?"
I looked into Zephyr's clear, earnest eyes, and inside them, I saw fear and hope.
After letting out a soft sigh, I wrapped an arm around his shoulders and said gently, "You saw it yourself. He hates it when I talk to other men. You should go."
