Chapter 20

Norah’s Perspective

One by one, the names on the list were being methodically crossed off. Each strike felt like a small victory, yet the weight of the challenge pressed heavily on my mind.

Sophie’s voice trembled slightly, a quiver of frustration and fatigue underlying her words. “Norah, I’ve reached out to everyone. The models either have scheduling conflicts or are outright refusing us. I’m convinced Camille is behind all this chaos.”

I rubbed my temples, the relentless stress making my head throb. “Who else is left?”

She pointed to the only name still untouched on the list. “Only Irina Volkova remains. But she’s practically retired and has a reputation for being difficult—temperamental, even.”

Without hesitation, I cut in, urgency sharpening my tone. “Find out everything about her. Contact details, favorite haunts, dislikes, anything. I want it all. Now.”

After pulling some strings and spending more than I’d care to admit, I finally tracked down an address—likely a discreet private club where Irina would be found.

The moment I pushed open the heavy door to the private room, the rich, thick scent of hookah smoke enveloped me. The dim lighting cast long shadows across the crimson velvet sofa, where Irina lounged, her fiery red hair cascading over the plush cushions. A long cigarette dangled lazily from her fingers.

Her eyes swept over me with a sharp, assessing gaze before she sneered, “And what is this? Lucien’s new plaything dropping by? Didn’t he teach you any manners? Don’t disturb my peace.”

My heart twisted painfully at the mention of Lucien.

“Ms. Volkova, I’m not here about Lucien. I’m representing my brand, Thorn Creative. We’re in a difficult spot, and I sincerely hope you’ll consider my design,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

She laughed, exhaling a swirl of smoke that danced in the air between us. “Not about him? Who are you trying to fool? Get lost—I’m no one’s ornament.”

Her dismissal was swift and icy.

Later, I parked my car in a shadowed corner where I could keep an eye on the club’s exit. I spent the night there, restless, determined.

I scoured every piece of information I could find on Irina Volkova: interviews, candid street photos, fan forums. Then, I stumbled upon a grainy old interview. When asked about her most cherished possession, instead of snapping back as usual, she spoke softly about a rare antique necklace she’d lost years ago—a snake-shaped piece with violet gemstone eyes.

Snake necklace. Violet eyes.

A sudden memory surfaced—I had once seen that exact necklace in a private catalog belonging to a friend who dealt in antique jewelry auctions.

Without hesitation, I placed an international call, nearly draining the last of my phone credit, and placed a bid.

“Norah, are you sure about this? That money could keep your studio afloat for months,” Sophie warned.

“I’m sure. Ship it immediately,” I replied firmly.
