Norah’s POV

The air in the room shifted.

Lucien’s gaze dropped to my lips.

He didn’t move, but the space between us crackled with tension.

“Probation?” he repeated, a slow smile tugging at his mouth.

“Don’t push it,” I warned, but my voice lacked bite.

He leaned in, his breath warm on my skin.

“I’ve missed you, Norah.”

His hand came up to cup my jaw, his thumb stroking my cheek.

I should’ve pulled away. I didn’t.

“Lucien-”

He cut me off with a kiss. It wasn’t gentle. It was hungry, possessive.

His lips claimed mine with a desperation that mirrored the chaos inside me.

I gripped his shoulders, my nails digging into the fabric of his shirt.

He backed me against the desk, his body pressing mine into the wood.

He kissed me again, deeper this time.

His hands slid down my back, pulling me harder against him.

I could feel how much he wanted me.

“I’ve dreamed about this,” he growled against my skin. “The way you taste. The way you feel.”

My head fell back as his teeth grazed my pulse point.

A moan escaped me, unbidden.

I was losing control, and part of me didn’t care.

His hand slipped under my shirt, his palm scorching against my lower back.

“Lucien,” I breathed, arching into him.

He reclaimed my mouth, kissing me like a drowning man finally reaching air.

His hips pressed against mine, leaving no doubt about his intentions.

I was moments away from letting him take me right there on the desk.

Suddenly, his phone rang, sharp and insistent.

He ignored it, his mouth still devouring mine.

It rang again. And again.

With a frustrated groan, he pulled away, resting his forehead against mine.

“Leave it,” I whispered, surprising myself.

He shook his head, his eyes clearing slightly. “It’s the secure line. It’s important.”

He grabbed the phone from his pocket and put it on speaker.

A man with a Spanish accent spoke in rapid French.

“Sir, we confirmed it. Three years ago, Eleanor Constantine used Carlos Vega’s channels to purchase a large quantity of a high–potency behavioral control drug. Enough to subdue an adult long–term.”

I froze.

“What does it do?” Lucien’s voice was cold, all traces of desire gone.

“Long–term use causes memory confusion, cognitive decline, even permanent brain damage. It’s hard to detect in routine exams. The delivery was traced to a private psychiatric facility owned by the Constantine family.”

“Keep digging. Find out who the target was.”

He hung up. We stared at each other, the same shock reflected in our eyes.

Eleanor wasn’t just dealing with the underworld. She might have been drugging someone within her own family.

But who?
