Chapter 6

Sophie’s hand clasped mine with eager excitement.

“This is incredible! Boss, you’re finally back! The studio’s saved! Please, don’t sell it…”

“Sophie!” Serena abruptly stepped forward, yanking Sophie’s hand away from mine.

“Norah, you’re still not well. You need to rest. Stop spouting nonsense!”

She practically dragged me into her office and slammed the door behind us.

“Oh, Norah,” she began, her tone shifting, “Constantine is hosting a family banquet this weekend.”

She hesitated before adding, “As Damian’s girlfriend… and also Lucien’s, we both have to be there.”

“It’s a formal event, darling. We’ll need appropriate attire.”

Her eyes flicked to my simple knitted dress.

“Formal attire…” I murmured, barely believing it.

“Don’t worry, Norah. Remember the storage room here? All those gowns you designed before are still kept there.”

She led me down the dimly lit corridor.

“Here we are. Your inspirations, all preserved.”

As she opened the door, a wave of foul odor hit me—mold mixed with the unmistakable stench of animal droppings. I recoiled involuntarily.

My eyes froze on what once were elegant dresses, now hanging in tattered garment bags, ruined beyond recognition.

Silk, once smooth and luxurious, was shredded into ragged strips. Delicate lace had been gnawed through, and intricate embroidery lay destroyed.

The floor was littered with ribbons, empty bottles, cake crumbs, and mouse droppings.

Suddenly, several plump mice, startled by our arrival, squeaked and darted out from beneath an ivory-white dress with a chewed bodice, disappearing through an open window.

My fists clenched tightly, my face burning with fury.

“Oh my god! Isabella! What… what happened? Explain this to me!” I demanded.

The unfamiliar shop assistant hurried over. “Serena, it was my birthday last week. My friends wanted to see the gowns in the storage room. We had a little party here, left late, forgot to clean up, and maybe didn’t close the window…”

“Useless!” Serena snapped angrily. “Do you even realize the value of these gowns? These are Norah’s creations! Look at what you’ve done!”

“Oh, darling, don’t be so upset,” Serena soothed, turning to me. “Isabella is our new store manager. She’s inexperienced, so try not to blame her too harshly.”

She glanced me over. “I have a few pieces from Valentino’s latest collection at home. The style might not be quite your taste, and the size might need adjustments…”

Her eyes scanned me up and down. “…but it’s better than nothing. I’ll lend them to you. You’ll shine at the family banquet, I promise.”

As she reached out to hug me, I pushed her away sharply.

Fixing my gaze on Isabella, I asked coldly, “Who gave you permission to touch my private gowns?”

Isabella’s eyes flickered nervously to Serena, clearly embarrassed.

I sneered at Serena. “So it was you who let this clueless fool ruin my work. And then you want to hand me a Valentino dress two sizes too small, something more suited to a nightclub? Serena, how dare you?”

Serena’s face twisted into an uglier expression than I’d ever seen.

I had tolerated her for too long, never raising my voice, never confronting her openly.

But now, it was time for her to understand who truly held the power.

I made my decision. “Isabella, you’re fired. Pack your things and get out of Thorn Creative. If I see you here again, you and your friends will be facing compensation claims and legal action.”

Isabella wailed, covering her face, and fled down the corridor in tears.

Silence fell. Sophie and a few longtime employees stood nearby, their eyes shining with excitement.
