All other thoughts vanished instantly—her entire focus zeroed in on the man before her, his tall frame radiating an intimidating energy.
“Babe, what’s wrong? Who pissed you off?”
Her voice carried a fierce edge, as if she’d charge out and deal with whoever dared to upset him.
When Harrison saw her return, some of the icy tension left his face. He looked up at her, voice low: “Come here.”
Even if he hadn’t called, she would have gone to him anyway. She strode over, and as soon as she came close, he pulled her straight into his arms.
Settled on his lap, she glanced around and immediately caught sight of his phone lying nearby. The screen was still lit up, displaying a flood of nasty comments about her.
She froze, realizing instantly what was going on. Turning to him, she asked, “Babe, you found out?”
She’d meant to tell him about registering herself, but apparently, he’d seen the news first.
It wasn’t surprising—the whole story had blown up online. Logan would definitely have noticed and reported back to him.
“Why did you suddenly decide to take this exam?” Harrison asked, his gaze steady on her.
Anastasia watched his expression carefully. “I’ve wanted to do it for ages. I’ve been preparing for a long time—it’s not sudden at all.”
Harrison nodded, remembering how she’d often have a medical textbook in hand, leafing through it whenever she had a spare moment. There were still plenty of those books she’d collected sitting in his study.
He’d always thought she was just bothered by people constantly comparing her to her mother, trying to prove herself so as not to tarnish her mom’s reputation.
But honestly, he’d never paid much attention to it—and deliberately never brought it up—because after all these years, his Ana hadn’t exactly shown much promise in that area. He figured medicine just wasn’t her calling.
Frankly, it seemed like an exercise in futility—just something that only made her feel worse.
He hadn’t expected her to be so ambitious as to register straight for the Global Harmony Medical Institute’s exam.
