Harrison looked down at the top of her head, the corners of his lips curving into a gentle smile, his deep eyes overflowing with affection.
He stroked her hair. "I have some work to do. Will Ana keep me company?"
Anastasia nodded eagerly. The atmosphere between them was so warm and intimate that she couldn't bear to be apart from him.
Harrison pulled her onto his lap. He was a master of multitasking; with one arm around her, he would occasionally whisper something or place a loving kiss on her temple while his other hand navigated his laptop, handling his affairs.
The cozy atmosphere was suddenly interrupted by a knock on the study door.
"Mr. Lancaster, Sean is here," Logan reported from outside.
Anastasia's eyes flickered toward the door.
"Send him up," Harrison said.
Anastasia instinctively tried to slide off his lap.
But the arm around her waist tightened, holding her in place. "What are you doing?"
"I'm getting down," she whispered back. "I can't meet him like this, can I?"
"Why not?" Harrison kissed her temple, his arm like an iron clamp. "I'm your husband. What's wrong with holding you?"
*But it's embarrassing!*
Just as she was about to protest, the study door swung open.
"Mr. Lancaster—"
Both Logan and Sean froze at the sight.
Logan, however, was a seasoned professional. He recovered in an instant, his expression unchanged. A simple embrace? Nothing to see here.
Sean, on the other hand, was visibly stunned. Despite his best efforts to hide it, his shock was evident, as was the cautious curiosity in his eyes as he looked at Anastasia.
Stella only knew that Harrison had left Riverton for medical treatment, not his exact location. When she found out Sean was leaving the city, she guessed he was going to see her uncle and latched onto him. Sean hadn't thought much of it at the time, but now, seeing how much Mr. Lancaster cared for his young wife, he belatedly realized he needed to explain himself quickly to avoid trouble.
After all, Stella hadn't just come for a visit; she had come to "deal with the vixen" and "win back Mr. Lancaster for Naomi."
After hearing the explanation, Harrison looked at him coldly. "You can't even shake off one person? Are you telling me you've become incompetent and I should find a replacement?"
Sean said nothing.
Harrison let out a cold snort. "You should be glad Ana's company needs you right now."
Sean understood the unspoken threat—be glad the madam needs you, or you would be facing punishment. He immediately shot Anastasia a look of profound gratitude.
Anastasia was speechless. *This is the same dashing, impressive man from the office? He turns into such a coward in front of Harrison. The contrast is a little jarring.*
"By the way, Ma'am, there's a matter at the company that I might not be able to resolve," Sean said suddenly.
