Mr. Cooper had barely reached them when he heard Lauren's words. His face instantly contorted in alarm. "Don't you dare say such things, Ms. Brennan!" he snapped. "Whatever Mr. Lancaster wishes to do, I support him one hundred percent! Ms. Sterling was framed, and he wants to find the truth. What's wrong with detaining someone for questioning?!"
Her attempt at driving a wedge might have worked on someone else, but this was *Harrison Lancaster*. What did it matter if he wanted to do something on Cooper's turf? He wouldn't object if Harrison wanted to do it in his own home! Was this Lauren girl brainless, completely unaware of Harrison Lancaster's terrifying status, or was she deliberately trying to get him killed?
Cooper had already suspected Lauren was behind the day's events. He was furious that she had chosen his conference for her scheme, putting him at risk of Lancaster's wrath. After her latest attempt to drag him down with her, his gaze turned glacial.
Lauren was stunned by Cooper's tirade. She remembered him being so warm and respectful in their past interactions. Why the sudden change?
Cooper paid her no mind. He turned back to Logan, his face instantly wreathed in smiles. "Logan, I've had my men secure that exit as well. I promise you, no one is leaving until Mr. Lancaster gets to the bottom of this."
Logan nodded with a polite smile. "Thank you, Mr. Cooper. Rest assured, Mr. Lancaster knows you're not at fault for today's incident. He won't hold it against you."
The knot of terror in Cooper's chest finally loosened. "That's a relief, a huge relief!"
He then turned back to Lauren, his tone once again harsh. "Please cooperate, Ms. Brennan! If you're truly innocent, then a small delay is nothing to be afraid of, is it?"
He was right. If she was innocent, what was there to fear?
But Lauren was anything but innocent.
