Anastasia hadn’t missed Lauren’s reaction. She was clearly shocked by this development, as if she had expected something else entirely. It seemed she had used some method to incapacitate Benson, but in a twist of fate, had inadvertently triggered the dormant venom in his system.
Now, she was trapped.
She had just claimed to be his savior. How would she explain it if she couldn’t wake him up now?
Anastasia couldn't believe Lauren’s luck. She had managed to dig her own grave without any help. With Benson’s life not in immediate danger, Anastasia relaxed, ready to watch Lauren squirm.
“Lauren?” Murray’s eyes narrowed when she didn’t respond. Mr. Brennan’s expression grew skeptical.
Juliet, who had never believed Lauren’s story, seized the opportunity. “Why aren’t you saying anything? Were you lying all along? Can you even save my brother?!”
A cold sweat trickled down Lauren’s back. “Grandfather, Uncle Murray, I…”
“Benson! How is my Benson?!”
A frantic cry echoed down the hall, followed by the sound of hurried footsteps. Winni and Mrs. Brennan had arrived, their eyes red with worry.
“Where is he? How is he?” Winni asked, grabbing the nearest person.
Anastasia gently supported her grandmother, who was panting for breath. “Grandma, don’t worry,” she said soothingly. “Benson was just having a relapse from that old snake bite. The residual venom flared up. Lauren said she was the one who saved him last time, and if she could handle it back then, this should be nothing, right?”
Her words made both women turn to Lauren.
