Anastasia recounted the events plainly. “Yesterday, Winni called me out of the blue, saying Lauren wanted to apologize for everything. I agreed. Lauren chose the time and place.”

“I went today, and everything seemed peaceful. When it was time to leave, I was supposed to take my own car, but I had something I wanted to discuss with Winni, so I switched cars with Lauren at the last minute.”

“Not long after we left the resort, Penny’s car appeared out of nowhere. She targeted the car Lauren was in and deliberately crashed into it.”

“After she realized she’d hit the wrong person, Penny was shocked. She kept asking me why I wasn’t the one in the car.”

Anastasia’s tone remained remarkably calm as she described the terrifying ordeal. “That’s why I said I was lucky. If we hadn't switched cars, I’d be the one in that hospital bed right now.”

She then turned her gaze to Winni. “Under the circumstances, shouldn’t any normal person suspect that Lauren was trying to have me killed? Why would you immediately assume that I was the one who harmed her?”

Mr. Brennan suppressed his fury. “You helped Lauren contact Anastasia? Didn’t I tell you that Lauren has nothing to do with this family anymore? When did she get in touch with you?”

“And have you still not seen what kind of person she is? She says she wants to apologize, and you just believe her? You nearly got Ana killed!”

Winni hung her head in shame, silent and trembling.
