“Are you refusing to come with me because you have to keep someone else company?” she asked, her hostile gaze landing once more on Anastasia.
Anastasia, who had been calmly sipping her tea, was speechless. She shot Marcus an irritated look, silently urging him to get his fiancée out of there and stop dragging her into their drama.
Marcus felt a surge of annoyance himself. Normally, he wouldn’t mind indulging a woman’s whims, but he was already emotionally drained from the poisoning incident, and Yolanda’s baseless jealousy was grating on his last nerve.
He reined in his temper. “Fine, if you want to go, let’s go. But I have things to do today, so I can only stay for ten minutes, tops.” He added firmly, “And for the record, Anastasia is with Harrison. I don’t want to hear you spouting any more nonsense.”
*With Harrison?*
Yolanda was so startled she momentarily forgot to be offended by Marcus’s impatient tone.
Harrison Lancaster was married?
Who was this woman, and how had she managed to land someone like Harrison Lancaster?
“I’m so sorry, I completely misunderstood…” she stammered, turning to Anastasia with an apologetic smile. “I don’t believe we’ve met. Which family are you from?”
Anastasia lazily lifted her eyes, giving her a cool glance. “My name is Sterling.”
“Oh, Ms. Sterling, I see…”
Yolanda’s smile froze on her face.
Sterling.
Anastasia Sterling?!
Her pupils contracted, and her hand, still clutching Marcus’s arm, tightened uncontrollably, her knuckles turning white.
Anastasia raised an eyebrow. “Is there a problem, Ms. Lockwood?”
A glance at her watch told her it was still early, so she hailed a cab and headed for the Global Harmony Medical Institute headquarters.
The headquarters was far more impressive than the Fairhaven branch, bustling with people. To her surprise, most of them were patients; the place felt more like a hospital.
She went straight to the reception desk and stated her purpose.
“You’re here to register?” the receptionist asked, her eyes widening in surprise as she sized up the young woman before her. Who was she to get into the headquarters at such a young age?
But a quick check on the computer confirmed that a letter of recommendation from a Mr. Lockwood had indeed been received. A closer look revealed that Anastasia wasn't an official member yet and would have to pass an assessment first. That made more sense; there were plenty of prospective members like her.
The receptionist’s expression returned to normal. “Please wait a moment while I consult my supervisor.”
She dialed Queena’s number.
