He leaned down and kissed her, his lips curving into a soft smile. "Alright."
As soon as Harrison left, the butler came upstairs with an invitation, apologizing. "Madam, this invitation arrived three days ago. The staff was negligent and didn't realize it was from one of your classmates. Please, see…"
Ever since the news of Harrison's marriage had discreetly spread, invitations for Anastasia had been pouring in, likely from people curious about her.
Anastasia had no interest in them, and Harrison had told her not to waste her time on such things if she didn't want to. Consequently, she hadn't accepted a single invitation, and the staff handled all the cards and letters that arrived.
Anastasia was surprised to hear it was from a classmate. She took it and saw it was from Monica.
But Monica had no idea about her relationship with Harrison, nor that she lived at the Lancaster estate. How did the invitation get here?
When she asked the butler, he replied, "Mr. Jackson helped deliver it."
Anastasia called Marcus. "Why would you help Monica deliver an invitation?"
"Monica?" Marcus's end of the line was noisy, sounding busy. He paused to recall. "Oh, right, Lennon's girlfriend! She originally asked that high school friend of yours, Gwen, to deliver it. I happened to run into them and just gave her a hand."
Anastasia was speechless. "Since when are you so helpful?"
"Don't I see some good drama brewing?" Marcus said lazily. "She had that malicious look on her face, obviously up to something. Free entertainment delivered right to your door—why turn it down? If you have time, you might as well go check it out for fun. See how much I care about you?"
Anastasia hung up on him.
She opened the invitation. Monica was inviting her to her birthday party.
A birthday party?
Lennon was stuck in a hospital bed, and Monica still had the heart to throw a party?
And what was their relationship, anyway, for her to receive a special invitation?
"Malicious intent" was the only explanation.
