Anastasia was instantly at a loss for words.
Back at home, she received a call from Lester.
He sounded slightly nervous as he asked, "I apologize for the intrusion, but will you be free tomorrow, Ms. Sterling?"
Anastasia remembered that she still needed to return the jade pendant to him. She had been so busy that she'd been putting it off for days.
She felt a pang of guilt. "Of course I have time tomorrow. I was actually planning to contact you, Mr. Calderon."
Lester's voice on the other end relaxed, tinged with a soft smile and a hint of delight. "That's wonderful. I was worried you might have forgotten our arrangement."
Just as she was on the phone, Harrison suddenly walked in.
Anastasia quickly hung up.
"Who were you talking to?"
Anastasia tried to act calm. "My professor, about the assessment results."
Harrison was about to ask more when a servant came to tell him his grandfather was asking for him.
He said to her, "If you're tired, go get some rest. I'm going to see Grandpa first."
Anastasia nodded obediently, watching him leave with a guilty heart.
She had no intention of continuing to see Lester; she was just returning something. There was no need to tell Harrison and make him unhappy, right…?
Besides, sometimes a small, well-intentioned lie is better for family harmony.
Having successfully convinced herself, Anastasia left the next afternoon under the pretext of visiting the Austin family, taking Lester's jade pendant with her.
