After presenting her invitation, she entered smoothly and began scanning the room for Bruno, when a shocked voice cried out—
"Anastasia? What are you doing here?!"
Anastasia turned to see the astonished face of Queena, and a frowning George beside her.
Unsurprised, she calmly retorted, "Why can't I be here?"
The gathering wasn't large, and Queena's unrestrained cry of shock had already drawn several glances.
Queena's mind raced. Suddenly, her expression hardened. "Anastasia, I know the Lancaster family is powerful, but look at where you are! Is this a place for you to cause trouble?"
"Get out now while you still can! Don't disturb the professors' gathering!"
A staff member, hearing the commotion, approached them politely. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Before Anastasia could speak, Queena cut in, "You're just in time. This young lady doesn't have an invitation. I don't know how she snuck in, but please escort her out!"
The staff member looked at Anastasia in surprise.
Anastasia remained perfectly calm. "If I didn't have an invitation, how would I have gotten in?"
Queena frowned. That was what she couldn't understand either.
But she absolutely refused to believe that Anastasia had received an invitation!
She had spent years building her reputation in Riverton and had George working tirelessly to secure this one opportunity for her. On what grounds did Anastasia deserve one?
